She smiled, nodded and closed her eyes. Ryder paced the corridor as the pack doctor carried out the operation on his mate. He rubbed his face in anger. He was angry. Angry at no one but himself. Angry he broke his promise. Angry he put both his mate and pup in danger. He would never forgive himself if anything happens to his mate. Never. “If our pup dies, I’ll stay at the back of your mind forever”, his wolf told him. He shook his head. “No. it won’t come to that. They will be safe”, he reassured himself as well as his wolf.

Ryder squatted to his level, as Sylvester was tied down to a chair, and a light bulb hung low above his head. “I can do this all day...” His voice came out hoarse, staring in the eyes of Sylvester. “You know what? We should do this all day. If you know what I mean?” Sylvester smirked in a seductive way and Ryder immediately understood his dirty thoughts. “You make me sick,” with that Ryder forcefully kicked him in the guts making him fall to the ground, with his hands still tied to the chair. Sylvester yelped but covered it with a laugh. Just then Ryder's ringtone sounded across the room. He picked up the phone and placed it against his ear.

"It means your wolves already know each other. They've been talking to each other since before you were born." Ryder processed this with his characteristic thoroughness. "Is that why I always know when Blake is going to cry before he does?" he asked. "Probably." "I thought I was just smarter," Ryder said. Can you give me something for the pain? This is all your fault!" Ryder scoffed. "Don’t exaggerate. A small cut on your finger won’t give you a fever. Besides, I already gave you a bandage and medicine before."

The pain is intense, and I start to panic. "Athena, what's happening? What's wrong with me?" I ask, my voice shaking with fear. But there is no answer from her. It's as if she has disappeared from my mind completely. "Stay here, I'll go get help," Ryder says, already running towards the road. I nod weakly, my eyes closing as I try to ride out the pain. It feels like forever before Ryder returns, but when he does, he is with our pack doctor. The pack doctor quickly assesses my condition. "The baby seems to be doing fine. Did you eat anything weird?"
