“If you take the time to look, I’m sure you’ll find it. You’re not the first to come looking.”
He pats my hand on the counter, before walking away. “Want a sandwich for later? I have turkey and cranberry, or ham and cheddar.”
“Ham and cheddar,” I chuckle, a small smile on my face. “Always cheddar.”
It takes him no time to pack it up in wax paper, scribble my name on it, and bag it up before handing it to me.
“Thanks, Eli,” I say, surprised to find I’ve enjoyed this quick lunch break, before grabbing my bag and walking out the door.
