Crisp slices of toast stared back too. My stomach growled even louder, embarrassing. I sat on the low stool. Pulled the tray closer. I grabbed the sandwich first, thick-cut bread. I took a huge bite tasting cheese, ham, and mustard, filling my mouth at once. Bread crunched. Cheese stretched. Salt and tang exploded on my tongue. I chewed fast, tilting my head around. Took another big bite. The juice came next. Cold. Sweet. I gulped half the glass in one go. Orange pulp stuck to my upper lip. I licked it off, heaving like I had run a marathon. My stomach cried the instant the food reached it.

Then I layered on cheese slices, the tomato—thin and a little soft—and a sprinkle of pepper. My stomach rumbled again, louder this time, and I cursed under my breath. Once everything was stacked and pressed, I flipped the sandwich to toast both sides and watched the cheese melt slowly between the layers. The smell hit me—warm, buttery, nostalgic. I hadn’t eaten since yesterday afternoon. No wonder my limbs felt like wet noodles. When it was done, I slid the sandwich onto a chipped plate, cut it in half diagonally (because I wasn’t a heathen), and carried it over to the little table by the window. I sat down on the single chair and looked out at the street below.

Nuts, an assortment of cheeses and a variety of sandwiches, cut into triangles. “You boys need to eat” she said, taking a set beside Jay and picking up a sandwich. I didn’t need to be told twice, I took a large bite of the sandwich and practically moaned. CeCelia had not inherited her mother’s gift of cooking, unfortunately. Forget it. I hurried towards the kitchen as I remembered I didn't have much time left. I decided to make a couple of roasted beef sandwiches. So, I grabbed a couple of pieces of bread slices and lightly toasted them. After the bread was roasted to my liking, I added plenty of roasted beef deli meat, some cheddar cheese along with some sliced avocados, and some fresh lettuce. For the final touches, I then added a little bit of mayo onto the bread slices and cut the sandwiches in half so they could fit better into the lunch box. After everything was done, I packed it all up.

I would not feel like this if he did not flirt shamelessly with me to begin with. I went to the kitchen and started making a sandwich, I stacked the layers with leftovers I found on the fridge: turkey, bacon, meatballs, onion rings, lettuce, tomatoes, ketchup and mustard, whatever I could get my hands on. This one was loaded with practically every lunch meat known to man and I noticed a few different kinds of cheese were stacked on it as well, along with lettuce, tomatoes, and some kind of sauce. It looked like something a male would put together. Not like the turkey and cheese sandwich Sara made. I wasn’t sure if Ryker had been the one to make it or if it was one of the other guys. Picking it up, I opened my mouth to take the first bite. Flavor burst into my mouth from the combination.
