Scott's POV It's pouring heavily outside and thunder is rumbling loudly and wildly and the night sky is as black as the devil's soul. Thick dark clouds are spread across the sky, too thick that you'd think the entire sky would collapse any moment. Lightning lits up the sky after every two minutes. The patter of the rain against the windows is soothing and I close my eyes tight and stretch my body on the long cozy couch.

The sound of the wind outside my window was soothing. It was pitch black outside so I had left my bedside lamp on. There was something so sinister about nighttime, the inability to see properly, the hushed, stealthy sounds in the darkness, the noticeable creaking and groanings of floorboards and ceilings, and a thousand other sounds that could be interpreted in many different ways.

10 years later… 10 years later… The Winter Hill estate is asleep, but I’m very much awake, which is not a good thing for my sanity. The night outside looks like it came straight out of a horror movie—black as ink, cold enough to freeze your soul, and eerily quiet. Even the wind is whispering ominous nonsense. My thin sweater is doing as much against the cold as a wet tissue would against a fire, but hey, fashion over functionality, right? I bolt.

Lawrence dropped the Tupperware and wobbled away. "Wait!" Kat called out, preparing to chase after her. However, it was at that exact moment that their surroundings went dark. The bright summer sky outside turned gloomy gray, the colorful paint marks on the floor devoid of any vivid tint. Slowly, small glowing particles began to appear out of thin air, impossibly weightless. The grayscale filter. The orb of blue lights appearing in a trail. The freezing air. . . . The death of another wicked mortal.

"Natalie? Was there a blackout? Why is it so dark in here?" Nicole let out trying to look past her fear, Natalie told her to meet her here but the whole place was already so dark even though it was still pretty bright outside it was only a few minutes past seven pm, why will Natalie ask her to come here when she won't be here? Initially, she had thought she wanted her to come to pick her but when she got to the complex, no one was in sight, she should have called Natalie before she got out of her car, she didn't expect the inside to be this dark and empty, the last time they had come here, there had been a few people here.

Master Chai Kern announced and brought everyone into the grand hall to celebrate the arrival of Drake, his Great-grandson. The day continued with a grand feast, and everyone’s drink glass flowed. “I learned from you.” The wind shifted again. A low sound rolled through the walls. Not a howl. Something deeper. Something that made the wood shake and the windows rattle. A warning. Lily stepped into the hall, her face pale. “The fires outside changed color.” My stomach tightened. “What color?” She swallowed. “Silver.” Seren’s breath broke. Rowan moved toward the window. “I cannot see anything through the snow. It is too thick.” He pushed the shutters open.

I wouldn’t piss on a one of them if they were on fire. “I think she’s up this way,” dad said, flicking his head. I was at least glad it wasn’t night time, I absolutely hated it out here when it was pitch black. Even with tiger vision it creeps me the fuck out. There are things out here that go bump in the night that even scare shifters. *Speak for yourself chicken shit,* my tiger said, puffing out his chest. I rolled my eyes, not in the mood for him. So much was at stake.
