PLAYING THE PLAYER (M×M)
His lips twitch, almost like he wants to laugh at himself.
My mouth parts, ready to say something cliché like, —life happens even if we don't want it. It's what we make out of it—
But he stops me.
“Don’t say anything,” he mutters.
I swallow audibly.
And he keeps going. Quiet. Bitter.
“They’re not gonna pick me,” he says. “Scouts were there today.”
“They saw me choke.”
I glance at him then, but he still won’t look at me.
“I wanted to piss him off though, you know?” His voice cracks, and I swear it slices something open in me. “That was the only reason I ever played. But then I got good. Then I started… liking it. Wanting it.”
