“No. It’s just… everyone has a role here. Rowan protects, Kevin plans, Elias heals, Cassian commands, Irene… well, she’s the reason we all breathe easier. And I… I just sit around making jokes and eating bread.”
Elias nudges him gently. “That’s an important service.”
“I’m serious,” Tobias says, still smiling but with an ache behind it. “I want to help. I want to do something real. Give me a task. Anything.”
For a moment, silence settles around the table. Then Kevin speaks first, thoughtful as always.
“What would you like to do?” he asks. “Something physical? Mental? Dangerous?”
Tobias shrugs. “Something that matters. I’m not much of a fighter, and the only thing I’ve ever grown is a beard.”
