I groan, but I’m smiling. The teams start lining up. The sound of the buzzer slices through the noise, and then everything shifts into the kind of silence that’s not really silence, just focus. Seth jogs out with his team, clapping a teammate’s shoulder, that easy grin on his face that hits something low in my stomach.
He looks good under the lights. His hair’s damp, curls darkened, and that jersey fits like it’s made for him. He bounces on his heels once, wiping his palms on his shorts. I’ve watched him do this a hundred times by now, but it still gets me.
