"One last thing, the prey this year is human. Hence, all wolves involved in the chase are hereby banned from shifting. With that being said, I shifted uncomfortably on my feet, my eyes roaming the audience. They were eager. I was terrified. The hunt I'd tried to avoid was finally happening. "Take off your blindfolds." I didn't see anyone else. I couldn't. They all looked the same. Big builds, trained physiques as their eyes found one another, playful promises of a fair competition were exchanged. Astrid was the only one who didn't take her gaze off me. They held a promise of retribution... to finish what she had started. And with a single shot fired, the game began.

"This is exactly how Hyna fights. She’ll blind you, confuse you, split your senses, and attack while you’re disoriented. You must fight without relying on vision." Delilah lifted a basket filled with black cloth. "Step two, blind training." There were groans. "No complaints," Delilah said sweetly. "Or I’ll tell Aiden you cried." A few warriors straightened immediately. Kimberly smiled despite the tension. Within minutes, the warriors were blindfolded. Some stood tall. Others wobbled like newborn pups. Kimberly walked behind them, voice calm but commanding. "Activate your wolf senses. Not your eyes. Smell. Sound. The shift in the air."

I looked around, listening to see if I could maybe hear them. I heard movement to my right, making me turn to look into the tree line. My heart thumped in my chest, hope filling my heart. Had they come back for me? I tried my hardest to see if maybe I could see their familiar forms, but it was the blind hour; dawn and dusk were the times of day when our eyes struggled to see things. Alexander had said that they call it the blind hour, where it was hard for our heightened sense of sight to make out shapes or see anything as we typically did.

Alpha Malik and Jericho stealthily reached their chosen hunting spot, a pristine wilderness teeming with possibilities. The hunting bush sprawled before them, a tapestry of lush greenery, dappled sunlight, and hidden secrets. The air danced with the earthy scent of the forest, inviting them to immerse themselves in its embrace. As they ventured deeper into the hunting bush, their eyes keenly scanning the surroundings, a symphony of chirping birds and rustling leaves serenaded their senses. The king's heart quickened with anticipation, and his hunter's instincts ignited.

I shake my head, “Enough of this. Let’s find the Shadow Beings. Have the three of you ever been out of the compound before?” They all look at one another but say nothing and I chuckle, “You sure talk a lot of shit 3111 for someone who’s never left the brick.” She rolls her eyes at me, flipping her hair and walking ahead. “We may never have left but they taught us everything we need to know.” “So, you know how to hunt in wolf form?” “Yes and no. We hunted the boars.” “Hunting out here is different from hunting boars. You actually need to track and use your senses. Your prey won’t be confined in a pen for you to maul.”

Hunter families are the most common, as my parents told me. Run. Run while we can- is my first idea. ‘It is only one motorbike,’ Bliss’s voice seeps through my panic; her courage raises my own. ‘If it comes to that, we can easily outrun them in the forest. They have no chance to catch us, even on a bike. Not that we need to run. We can easily fight two hunters,’ she says confidently.

July seemed enthusiastic about the idea. "Huh?" Really, Argus looks stupid with his current expression. "What do you mean by blind marriage? Will the guests wear blindfolds like a masquerade party or something similar? Or will the entire wedding hall be pitch black?" Whether the thought of a new idea for a marriage concept is too good or her mental health was depressed due to the pressure of the situation, Argus was dubious for a moment.

I feel them, know them, they are pack. The changelings are our pack. They run with their leaders, and when Leneve spots a rabbit, she and I hunt it together. Feasting on the small animal in our Lycan forms. The changelings understand and once we devour the small meal we set off as one to hunt a bigger game as the pack of hunters we were becoming. We spot a deer, crouching and waiting in the shadows until the unsuspecting stag relaxes then Leneve and I take it down. I execute the kill, sinking my fangs into the neck, feeling the bone, and applying pressure until I hear it crack.

Everything about the forest filled her with fear until it overflowed. Another scream ripped through the frigid air and Chloe jumped, whipping around in a circle looking in vain for an invisible threat. The third scream seemed to flip a switch in the blonde and her limbs burst into life, carrying her through the blanketed wilderness in the direction of the screaming. The further she travelled the louder the screams got. Eventually she picked up the scent of wood fire and the unmistakable scent of stale alcohol. For a moment Chloe questioned why she could smell such things in the middle of nowhere, but it wasn't long before she could make out the shapes of a rundown hunting cabin and snowmobil

I step forward and all turn to face me and bow. “My people and Alphas from other lands. Welcome! Tonight, we come together to remember what has been lost, what has hurt us as a whole. Many here have felt this more keenly than others, but be assured no one feels it more so than I. I dedicate this hunt to you, my people, to the packs of this kingdom. Tonight, we hunt as one pack, no titles in this forest. We hunt together to bring food to our tables. With the bounty of the forest, we will send food to those suffering and we will celebrate and remember those taken into the goddess’ embrace too soon.
