Prologue Bookshop Novels & Stories

I pushed open the store door. It must have been a poor day for the crystals and the Crookshollow ghost tour brochures, because the shop was completely deserted. From somewhere behind, a small bell rang. The place looked exactly as I remembered it—small tables and dark mahogany bookshelves lined the dimly lit space, filled with candles, crystal, and odd books. I coughed as a wave of sweet-smelling incense hit my nostrils. Clara slipped in from the back of the shop, carrying a stack of books that was almost as tall as she was. Her kind face broke into a smile when she saw us.

*Author’s Note* Dear readers, Before you go ahead and read this story, I thought it wise to leave a note concerning a couple of “needs to know” for your comfort. Small and careful, the kind you protect with both hands. I found a bookshop by accident, looking for somewhere warm to sit. It sat between a dry cleaner and a chip shop, easy to walk past if you were not looking. The owner was an old man named Douglas. He wore the same burgundy jumper every day and never asked me what I wanted. He just let me sit. There was a worn velvet armchair in the back with a small heater pointed at it, and I sat there for hours some days, reading whatever he handed me. Nobody was watching me to see if I was doing it right. Nobody needed anything from me at all.

he said. I looked out the window. “There’s a bookshop,” I said. “Two streets from the market. So small you have to turn sideways in the aisles. I bought two books I didn’t need.” “What kind.” “One about a woman who builds boats. One about a city that doesn’t exist.” He made a sound that was almost a laugh. “Of course.” “Of course what.” “You’d find the one bookshop,” he said. “In the whole city. First month.”

There was a balcony straight through with a rocking chair and a thick blanket draped over the back of it. This will take me forever! Sighing, I started on the left and will work my way around. I soon noticed that they were organized in categories. Surely, prophesies will be under history so I made my way to the history section. I found four books, Prophesy of the 1900’s, Where do Prophesies Come From and What are They?, Are Prophesies Real, and Understanding Prophesies. Looking at the couch, I grabbed the ottoman and pulled it up next to the left side of the couch and made myself comfy. I will probably be here awhile.

I pushed his shoulder playfully. ‘Oh please, you slept there once I think’. Finishing up our meal we carefully packed up the leftover food into the bag. Sasha took my hand in his and we made our way down the busy street. I looked all around me as we walked trying to figure out where he was bringing me when he stopped in front of an old bookshop. Pointing up to a beige sign above a green storefront that read ‘Shakespeare and Company’. I excitedly asked Sasha to take my photo in front of the store so that I could immediately upload it to my facebook page. I browsed the thousands of books upon the shelves losing track of time and of Sasha. I browsed the same aisles several times seeing new book

How can he waste everything? He decided to leave. " I just need fresh air, excuse me!", he uttered and passed between them. --- Lucy and Gale, we're both quiet. Gale's eyes were studying her movement. He quickly ran to catch her when she suddenly falls while reaching the book on the shelves. They're inside his library and Lucy offered to clean it.

CHAPTER FOURTEEN When I arrived at this particular book shop, the people who were around it were surprised. It was rare for a student to be visiting a bookshop when the session was almost coming at the end. The shopkeeper looked at me with suspicion, and I wished I had some of my ‘Crown Prince’s Aides’ at that moment. They’d have helped to instil the fear of God into him. “What particular book are you looking for sir?”. “Give me that 2009 Guinness Book of World Records…” I walked into the inner part of the book shop and excused myself after I belched.

It contained a single book. “Woah! This is crazy,” Roger whispered. Lazarus walked up to the book, it was in a glass protective casing. “You didn’t know this was here, did you?” Velma asked. “No, I didn’t,” he clarified. Lazarus inspected the book. “What is it?” Nigel demanded. “It’s so beautiful,” Clarke admired. Lazarus gulped when he realized what it was. “It’s the Book of The God’s.”
