A sudden sensation of dread washed over me, causing my face to pale and my body to tremble. The very pack that had taken away my parents was now making its way here. I would have no choice but to dance for them. “Are you okay? You look like you’re going to be sick. Oh, crap! Did you catch what Kai had?” Phillip stood from his desk worried.

Everything changes.” The wind picked up, bending the long grass and whistling through the trees. It carried a strange scent—metallic and cold, like wet steel. It was the same smell from the night I first shifted. The smell of labs, hidden rooms, and things that watch through glass.

All I could see were the Dark shifters, Golden Shifters and the Praishe. I watched in surprise as A praishe attacked a Dark shifter. They were supposed to be evil, right? No, they were just crazy, foolish, bloodthirsty creatures. This gave me an idea. *Shove all the dark shifters towards praishe and leave this place immediately.* I commanded as I zipped away. The scene of praishe sucking the energy from the dark shifters lingered in my mind as I moved ahead. For some reason, it made me feel sick in my stomach.

Rivers, once steady and predictable, began running upstream under the cover of night, twisting and turning against nature itself. Caitlyn could feel the change in the air. The world was breaking, and something ancient was clawing its way to the surface. Her wolf, once calm and dormant, had become restless, the once-predictable instincts now unpredictable and sharp. At random moments, Caitlyn found herself in partial shift—her claws elongating, her senses heightening, her control slipping. The power surged through her like a current she couldn’t control, pushing her to the edge, filling her with a hunger she didn’t understand.

Thalia gasped, her hand instinctively covering her mouth, the shocking sight disrupting her initial intentions. Determined, she headed towards the interior of the house, her senses heightened, poised for action.

Jake rubs a hand over his face, already losing the battle not to laugh. “You fainted?” Alaric asks. “I’d only just found out shifters existed a few hours earlier,” Poppy defends. “And there were two of them claiming I was theirs!” A slow smile spreads across Alaric’s face. “There’s two of us.” Poppy points at him. “Exactly! This is madness.” The laugh that bursts out of her is loud enough to echo through the trees; it’s so infectious that even Bastian’s mouth twitches. Callen looks proud. “See? Progress.”

My heart thudded against my ribs as the vibration pulsed against my palm; after a brutal internal battle between locking the screen or acknowledging the Alpha, my finger slid across the glass.
