Chapter 20 - Insane After helping Marilyn change into another dress, Annalise gathered all her personal belongings and instructed the maids to handle them with utmost care. The King had commanded Annalise to bring his queen to the palace, signaling the imminent start of the marriage rites. He poured himself another whiskey, raising it in a mock toast. "To Arabelle Moretti-Valerio. The Queen who doesn't know she's playing the wrong side of the board." He drank. "But you will soon enough. And when you do, this whole game changes." Outside his window, the city lights twinkled innocently. Somewhere in that city, Arabelle was probably celebrating her victory. She leaned close, her voice soft and gentle, yet laced with venom. "Selene, this is the surprise I prepared for you. Do you like it?" The text message had been from her! Before I could even react, she flashed a strange, calculating smile. Suddenly, she stumbled to the side, and the glass in her hand slipped from her fingers, shattering on the floor. The proud, confident Christina I'd seen moments ago suddenly became fragile and pitiful. She looked at me with wide, sorrowful eyes. "Ms. Kingsley, why are you treating me this way? Do you hate me?"

She blinks up at me, then huffs. “I told him not to touch me. Men never listen.” I almost laugh. Almost. A soft, broken whisper cuts through the chaos. Quiet. Devastated. “Ravelle…” Every muscle in my body locks. The Queen is standing. Her eyes—those same eyes—are filled with tears. Every head turns to her.

I mentally smirked when she blushed but absorbed her question instead. "Well, I was confused too but she said that the previous Queens share the curse with their mate before.
