The first explosion shattered the night at 2:13 a.m. The sound rolled across the city like thunder with teeth, deep, splitting, hungry. From the Morreau penthouse, the windows trembled. Raven jerked upright in bed before she was even awake, instincts snapping faster than thought. The other side of the bed was cold.
“Jaxon?” Her voice cut the dark.
There was no response, only the low hum of security systems and the whisper of wind through glass. The city beyond glittered with its usual indifference, until the second blast bloomed across the eastern docks, red and furious against the horizon.
