Padding silently to the window in just his underwear, he peered out into the night just as a long, piercing howl broke the silence. Merlin froze, goosebumps forming on her arms as the hairs on the back of her neck stood on end. Fully dressed, she went to stand beside him at the window as another howl came from outside, followed by a series of howls that reverberated through the trees. From the window, she could just make out shadowy forms moving through the trees, and as they circled the cabin, she realized that they were, in fact, werewolves. Zeke swore softly under his breath, "Rogues!"

“I haven’t seen your new mahogany steed, Mistress?” “It’s before the fence. I won’t let another near the precipice— or it would gallop off again to the bottom of the steep slope.” The witch replied, clapping to get rid of moist dirt. She sniffed, especially when she is suspicious about her goat-head servant. “There are plenty of horsetails— Those are two, three, and fourth, Madame! Are we going to have chicken stew again, Mistress?” Siegfried was irreproachable. It was just that it had not planned to disappoint a pleasant afternoon.

The moon hung in the sky like a brilliant, oversized flashlight. Lila leaned her forehead against the window pane. It felt cool and soothing. Peering into the illuminated night, she looked out onto the mountain in hopes of spotting Marcus and his pack approaching the castle. She’d had no word from Ben about the rescue Jasper and the werewolves were planning for her, but this would be the prime time for them to do it. She closed her eyes and tried to visualize Jasper in his wolf form as he raced through the woods with the pack, but the pain in her back wouldn’t allow her mind to focus.
