He stared at the amulet as though it were pulling him into another place. Arah could feel the pendant’s faint energy hum, tickling her chest. Whatever magic it held, it seemed to affect even an ordinary person. She tucked the amulet back beneath her blouse before it caused any harm. Roselia had said it was merely an enchanted object for protection against dark magic. But Arah wasn’t going to take any risks. The movement broke Agent Durante’s trance, and his eyes snapped back to hers. “Please, Agent,” she pleaded. “I just want to see Gildeon.”

"I really don't have time for this. What have you used to shield yourselves from the Outlanders? Do you know where they hide?" She looked reluctant, turning to the guards within the palace. "No one is gonna hurt you," I assured. Her lips pressed thin. "There is an ancient amulet that belongs to the Nightcrawlers. It is given to anyone who ascends the throne as a means of power and protection." "How does the amulet stop the Outlanders?" Soren asked.

Lila, her voice soft but firm, added, "We must honor our ancestors by continuing their legacy and protecting the future of our clan." As they continued to study the tablets, they discovered a hidden compartment at the base of the pedestal. Inside, they found a collection of scrolls and a small, intricately designed amulet. The amulet glowed with a soft, reassuring light, and they felt a sense of warmth and protection emanating from it. Selena picked up the amulet, her eyes widening in recognition. This empire. The underworld. I ran my thumb over the Abraha insignia. A golden emblazoned crow in mid-flight and twisted the ring so it lay against my palm. I hated the sight of it. The weight. The feel of it was even worse. Suddenly, a thought crossed my head at the resemblance of the black seal and my ring. A symbol that I failed to recognize but hazily suspected. I see lights behind my eyes and am about to take my last breath when the creatures lighten their hold on my neck to drag me forward by the scruff of my shirt. Marael’s expression is one of satisfaction when the creature tosses me hard against the stone, never freeing its grip from my neck. The harsh light of the hellish landscape’s sun reflects against the metallic surface of Marael’s ceremonial knife as he raises it above my chest. It is a protective amulet.” Lena turns the shimmering blue opal talisman in her hand and scrunches her face at the unusual dragon hide base that will fasten it to her neck like a choker and then she raises an eyebrow at me.

I nodded, swallowing hard on nothing. He led me to a circular stone altar, cracked and weathered with age. On it lay the artifact Cain had gifted Alpha Magnus, a curious amulet, carved from black stone and etched with glowing runes. I felt a shiver run down my spine as I reached out, my fingers trembling slightly. “Let me see that,” Riven said softly, gently taking the artifact from my hand. He held it up to the fading light, tracing his fingers over the symbols. “There’s more to this you all think you know.”

His eyes, however, were filled with a fury that mirrored the fear that had gripped my gut. “Alden,” Lena began, “I have gone through the trouble of preparing all of this for you.” Her voice dripped with false sweetness. “However, we both know it doesn't have to end this way. Hand over your kingdom, and the amulet, and all of this…unpleasantness will go away.” Alden's fury intensified. The amulet was a silver pendant etched with the image of a griffin. It was a trinket passed down generations of Alden's family signifying their rule over the lands. It was a symbol of his heritage and birthright.
