Owen and I looked right at one another with realization that it was raining just as the down pour started. It was as if someone had turned on the shower faucet, the rain starting quicker than either of us could have expected. We ran for the nearest trees, but their bare branches offered no protection from the sudden deluge. I shivered, the two of us already completely soaked by the sudden microburst. Owen quickly shrugged out of his jacket and wrapped it around my shoulders, the satin inside still warm from his body.

"Omar said he left orange ribbons tied to trees that led in the direction of the cabin. We just need to find them." For now it seemed the tension from earlier was forgotten and the girls worked together again, spreading out along the track to hunt down the little breadcrumbs their helper had left for them. They needed to move quickly as well, even as werewolves they would eventually start succumbing to the stresses of the freezing cold air and they were already starting to tire from their arduous trek through the Wyoming wilderness. Being low-born shifters, they weren't blessed with wolven forms so couldn't rely on a thick pelt to protect them.

“What do you need?” Rain couldn’t explain everything that would be necessary, so she reached for the bag herself. Mist opened it wide for her, and Rain pulled out the same sort of healing wand she’d used on Walt when he’d gotten shot as they were first leaving Gretchintown. “Is there an exit wound?” she managed, her voice so weak, she hardly recognized it herself. “I don’t know,” Mist admitted. She huffed slightly as she leaned forward, trying to give Mist access to her shoulder. “How can I tell?”

Lucian roars approval, wings flaring. Kayo flips through the rain, tails glowing brighter, foxfire mixing with blood droplets into pink-violet fireworks.

Kiran went down to his knees as he screamed, and grabbed his head. “Raven!” I yelled at her as my own flames started in my hands, and I looked into her eyes. “Mein.” I sent everything I had to her. She stepped back, and I started drawing from the magic in the forest around me, using the elements as my foundation.
