There was a tale passed through generations, reaching the 21st Century, about a group of werewolves’ special mutation that brings out dormant abilities from a family’s genetic line. They were said to be marked and blessed by the moon goddess for they were the first of her followers. They were given the title of Legacy Wolves, keeping up their tradition and passing on their special traits through their children.

As she looked across the clearing it was filled with wolves, black, brown, grey, sable, and one lone white wolf. He was immense and stood on the precipice, watching those below. A black wolf that was just as big approached and stood by his side. They exchanged glances and looked in her direction. She had to side step to avoid being bowled over by the gigantic black panther that barreled past her on her way to the top of the bluff. She rubbed her body along the side of the white wolf. She purred as he licked her head.

Wolves have a slower aging rate that allows them to live up to four hundred years. The human doesn't know about the Isles of Kairos but we know about them. It is very rare for wolves to seek the human world because they consider humans to be inferior to them. It shows how Wolves who can't shift are treated. A wolfless person is treated like a second-class citizen, they are mostly the bitches of the pack, the butt joke, and a dumb ground for everyone. They are even treated worse than an omega which is the lowest rank, though most of them are mostly omegas.

Whoever had written the passage had been multi-lingual, she thought, switching between languages smoothly, as if everyone did so. Pack hierarchy was complicated, but there was always a lead alpha and his mate. Beneath him, other alphas, betas, gammas which served as commanding units within the pack, and beneath them, wolves without rank – which was the majority. Omegas were a separate rank, though how that worked, Aislen was unsure as much of that was written in the other language, and then there was a luna, with la sorcellerie written beside it. She didn’t need a translation for that, she thought ruefully.

Usually alphas are the strongest in the pack but in the case the heir is weak, anyone who feels they’re stronger can issue a formal challenge for the alpha title. Next are the betas. They are usually the alpha’s right hand man or woman. After them there is the gamma. Some packs have gammas while others do not. Darren’s pack didn’t have a gamma and I’m beginning to think Sebastian doesn’t have one either because he hasn’t mentioned anyone. “From the numbers, I guess tonight’s significance is not going to be a surprise to you. “As our young wolves grow, it is often evident from an early age if they rank, particularly if they rank as alphas,” she smiled as she said it and the gathered werewolves chuckled in rueful acknowledgement. “Alphas are our leaders. They are our warriors. They are a pack’s strength. As with many packs, it is our tradition to formally acknowledge the ranks when our werewolves turn eighteen. It rarely comes as a surprise to the werewolf, their families, or the wider community, but it is nice for us all to clearly acknowledge the coming of age.

I could even hear the wolves fighting from afar but I wouldn’t dare to look back and stay here anymore to gossip. Then I saw an Omega walking towards a shop. Another rank, the lowest rank, can be given to a wolf in a pack. Packs rarely abused Omegas anymore because it threw the pack off balance. Omegas may be the pack's lowest-ranking member, but their presence allowed the other members to unwind. With so many higher ranking and powerful pack members constantly around, people could become uneasy and get intimidated. But if an Omega is present, the hierarchy of power is stabilized.
