It was warm. "Mommy, look!" Leo was running up the hill toward me. He was pointing back at our house. A black SUV was pulling into our dirt driveway. It didn't have a driver. The windows were opaque glass. On the roof, a small, rotating sensor array was chirping. Beep. Beep. Beep. The sound of the world ending. Again. I grabbed Leo’s hand. I didn't look back at the house. I didn't look back at the life we’d tried to build in the dirt.

Maverick greets Rover indicating that he sees him as a friend and not as a subordinate. Rover grins widely as he walks up to Maverick and they slap each other's shoulders like the friends they are. Morgan directs us to a table, when everyone is seated there are three empty chairs. “Who are we waiting for?” I ask Morgan. “You’ll see when they get here, they are almost here,” Morgan smiles, looking more like herself again as she serves tea and coffee.

A deafening, metallic shriek echoed across the courtyard. The pipe fractured. A massive jet of raw, invisible pressure hissed violently into the freezing air. "Clear out!" Jinx roared over the external speakers of the rover. I dropped my sword and dove behind the stone slab, throwing my body over the Architect to shield myself from the shrapnel. Jinx slammed the rover into reverse. The heavy treads spun wildly on the ice. She backed up fifty feet, dropped the massive engine into high gear, and floored the accelerator.

Darius POV The forest was quiet, save for the crunch of leaves under my boots as Ryker and I made our way deeper into the woods. This path was well hidden—a place we used for covert meetings when we didn’t want anyone listening in. The moon filtered through the treetops, casting long shadows on the ground, and I could feel the tension building inside me. Ryker didn’t say anything at first, just handed me a folded piece of parchment. I opened it and quickly scanned the contents.

The big body was getting faster and faster, leaving dry leaves that flew after being stepped on. His nose was too sensitive to smell the sickening scent. "I'm three kilometers from you guys," Jade said to his teammates. Jade increasingly saw the three Rogues which he currently believed to be in a state of anxiety, waiting for his presence. His feet walked slowly and stalked those who at this time did not know he was hiding behind a tree. You are wrong when you confront me. With a single move, Romeo claws at his enemy's eye in two at once and instantly gushes out fresh blood. Jade grinned in horror at the tear. Too light for the intruder in the pack.

“Hold it, Rick O’Connell. That corridor screams trap. Rover’s a prototype, yeah, but I’d rather he ends up skewered than your dumbass.” Sean offered both hands, mock-pious. “Fine.” Lizzi’s fingers danced. Rover’s feed flickered—the ground-level view of frescoes sliding by, the Laylon scanner layering depth onto the mesh. “Clear so far,” she murmured. “Initiating second pass—denser lidar.” Rover crawled past the second fresco. A metallic clank chased its wheels. Jessica’s breath caught. From the ceiling, two axes swept down in a clean, engineered X. Steel hissed. The robot atomized into sparks and torn housings; the monitor went black mid-scream.

Roy voiced loudly. Arnold turned to his robot and commanded, “Roasty, go and take the person you had seen on the screen to the Vandalt Cell.” A small slot slid open on Roasty’s forehead. The light was projected on to the screen from that slot as Roasty captured the picture and coordinates directly from the screen. Then, he flew out of the chute just like he always did. Arnold tapped a button which powered another screen on. He got busy entering details and codes. The screen turned black for a few moments and then some words appeared on the screen.

Her head falling to my shoulder as she interlocked our fingers and ran her thumb lightly over my knuckles. "I know. And I guess that makes you our Uncle which is kind of cool too. You can scare the people who pick on my brother," Michael laughed as he took his place back on the floor just as Daniel came back into the room holding the spaceship. He was making 'zooming' and 'whooshing' sounds as he ran around pretending he was flying up to the sky before he made it land on Link's lap.
