Reading University Library Novels & Stories

We’d gone to the Media Center for the remainder of class, so that everyone could get the chance to do some research for our essays. The library at my previous school was nothing more than a dingy room with a plethora of reading posters from the early 2000’s peeling off its four walls. There were a few stacks of books, but they were all ‘school approved,’ which meant all of the interesting ones had been tossed out. Darkling University’s Media Center put even the grandest of libraries to shame.

I smiled, thinking she would just remind me of the rules again. “I’m not sure if I was the right person to ask this, and besides, I know you, Anj,” she said, shaking her head. She was right because Dylan, Anya, and I have been coming here since we all started studying at the university. We were more like her regular customers here even when smartphones became popular that most students rely on researching on the Internet than coming here to the library. “It’s okay to ask me, Ms. Livy,” I assured her.

The next day I show Taran around Fort Collins. We stop by the university so I can pick up my books. First, we go to the library so I can print off the list of materials I need. But when I log in to view my class it shows there is a hold on my account and I can’t access my classes. Taran follows close behind as we make our way to the bursar's office.

The University library is huge and Ria very excited to explore it. She felt like she was on the other side of the world when she was here. How could she not. She did not expect that this room had such an extraordinary interior. The library has high ceilings and spans two floors. The pillars of the building are very tall and large, made her felt like she was wandering in a land of giants. She was given instructions by one of the librarians how to find the reference books she was looking for.

He showed her the different departments, labs, and the sprawling campus facilities. Later, they had lunch at the cafeteria and spent quite a while in the library, where Raven recommended several books that could be useful for Selina in the future, especially for her field of study. By the time they left the campus, evening had turned to night. They walked along a quiet path around the university, the air calm and still.

~IVY~ The library has become our second classroom at this point. We go there almost everyday. The academy's purpose is for its students to have access to a wide range of knowledge through reading, not to confine the students to just it's regular curriculum. But almost every student I know is doing everything but reading. The library is more of a free period, to catch up on assignments, gist and for some, to make out. Me? I'm mostly in the library to find whatever I can on the Ebon Testament and so far, I've got nothing.

He watched me walk toward the main gates, lingering until I was inside the crowds of students. The university was a stunning collection of old red-brick buildings and paved courtyards. A large sign made of wrought iron and stone stood at the entrance, reading "Rodrigo University" in bold, gold lettering. I pulled out my map, feeling a bit lost. I was looking for Hall B. "Looking for the art wing?"

EVANGELINE I arrived at the library a little after 8 pm. The university library is always open, and more active at night. No one batted an eye in my direction as I walked right to the science wing, picked out a book, sat down and took a picture. I sent the picture to my parents, and both of them replied almost immediately. Once that was done, I returned the book and walked out of the library, headed straight to the Humanities office. I didn’t expect to meet Professor Arthur. But now, as his TA, I had full reign of his office. If anyone stood in my way, I’d flash my card and get away with anything.

There were plush, old-fashioned armchairs set around a small coffee table under the stairs, and oil paintings on the walls as they continued into the house, passing labelled doors. “I’m training for the seminary. It’s part of the routine.” “Seminary,” Logan pulled a face. “I thought this was a high school,” he added. “It is. Why do you ask?” Jonathan wondered. “Junior library, senior library.” “Ah, the junior library is open to all students, the senior library has more… advanced books. There’s another library… But you’ll learn about that later. At the moment, you can use the junior library. It’s got, you know, fiction books and stuff for schoolwork.”

Lucas looked at me innocently, shrugging his shoulders and I wanted to beat him to death for causing me to be ejected from the library. It was true that I was hiding in it for Madow, but I was also hiding in it for the other three, since they weren't allowed in places where only students could enter, but I could also use the space and the silence to concentrate on what I was doing. I loved studying and above all, not being disturbed while I was doing it. I walked through the halls of the university, looking for my locker, since I had to leave my books ready for the evening class and in that gap I had between classes, I dedicated myself to work.
