He stared at me, the hatred in his eyes evident and then he said the words I dreaded the most in my life. "I, Alpha Leo Fernandez of the Blood Moon Pack, rejects you, Crystal Thorne as my mate." His words tore through my very being, leaving my wolf shattered, but there was nothing I could do. "Now, accept the damn rejection and get lost," He growled. I shook my head in the negative. I had heard so much about the pain that came after a rejection and I didn't want to go through that. "Are you out of your mind?" He grabbed me by the throat and squeezed hard. "You would die like a pauper here and no one would even bother to search for your remains."

We would have been sleeping soundly if he hadn’t sent this woman to kill me. "I am a daughter of an Alpha, Alpha Alistair. I may not be as strong as you are, but sending a mere Omega to kill me at night is a very cheap trick, I must say." I glare at him before curling my lips in a sweet smile. "It’s okay though. It’s not like I expected you to treat me like a princess here. Besides, isn’t this enough reason for me to withdraw from this agreement? If you’re looking for a bride to kill in your territory, then she’s not me."

Her voice was feeble yet resolute. Left with no other option, I watched her retreat into the room, confusion etched across my face. What had I done wrong to make her so unhappy? I could see the way his features had crumbled, the way his eyes had filled with a moisture that looked remarkably like genuine pain. I tried to shake it off, splashing cold water on my face to shock my system, but the image kept coming back. Why did he refuse to accept my rejection? He had every opportunity to say the words and end the bond, to save face in front of the gathered Alphas and pack members. Why did he look so regretful? Has he really changed?
