I nodded, swallowing my fear. He needs me so we can make it out alive. He needs me. I kept repeating this in my head like a prayer.
“Take the wheels,” he ordered, and I did, climbing on his side, stepping on the gas, holding the steering wheel as he let go. The switch slowed our speed, making it easier for the riders to close in on us.
Dad was quick to shoot the riders on each side of the car, but soon bullets rained on us. Looking in the rearview mirror, another SUV appeared out of nowhere. Both had a heavy assault rifle on the roof manned by two people.
