I gently set her aside, kiss the side of her head and let her know I’ll be right back. I know exactly where I’m going. When I trained with Cara the one time, there was an indoor training facility. It has everything one would need to train, including punching bags. I don’t stop until I walk up to the first bag and punch with every bit of frustration I’m feeling, punching a hole in the bag. I move to the next one and do the same. I’m on the sixth bag when I hear Rik. “Want a real person to punch?” He asks me.

The one who smiled only when something hurt enough to be earned. “You are late by two minutes,” Boris said flatly. “I’m early by intention,” I replied. Something flickered in his eyes. Approval, maybe. The training ground was stripped bare. No distractions. No spectators. Just dirt, sweat, and consequence. We began immediately. Footwork. Balance. Grip. Reaction. Xavier tried to convince me otherwise, however this isn't something that he could easily persuade me out of. Our training started very similar to before. I ran 50 laps everyday. Once Xavier was satisfied he moved onto baseball. I know that sounds completely left field (pun intended) to fighting, however Xavier used it as a way to test my reflexes. We would practice at a local batting cage. He would aim the balls in different directions until I could hit them all without missing a shot.

“And Marcus? How does he fit in?” “He’s my private trainer,” I said smoothly. “Ryan hired him months ago because I put on some weight after we got married. Marcus comes around the house for private sessions. It’s more comfortable that way. We work on exercises tailored just for me, in the home gym area or sometimes in the living room if needed. Nothing unusual. He’s professional.”

Today they were training in the boxing area, which had all the equipment they needed—reinforced mats, multiple heavy bags and so on. Ryker stood nearby with his arms crossed. He watched Kira closely as she trained, his expression both approving and critical. "Come on, harder!" He barked, stepping closer. "Use your core. Tighten that guard. Punch like you mean it!" "Arghh!" Kira grunted in frustration, adjusting her stance, and then Bam! She threw another punch with everything she had. "Mhm... That's it!" Ryker encouraged. "Good job, now I need you to keep that momentum. Don't let up! I know you have a lot more in you!"

As much as I wanted to dislike him, Ash was quickly becoming one of my good friends. I had come to Soacha earlier than I was supposed to, as I wanted to give myself some time to adjust before I started my placement. With Ash's help, I was able to find a gym nearby. I was anxious to train. In the past, training helped to calm me and make me feel more at ease. I loved the endorphin rush. Fighting helped to clear my mind and allowed me to focus on what was important. When I was in the rehabilitation centre I had stopped training for a while. However, the nurses there convinced me that training would help. I remained in denial at first but soon realized that they were right.
