Rune. In the bustling atmosphere of the pack's medical facility, Rune, still processing the revelation of her pregnancy, sought medical confirmation from Chris, the pack's doctor. The scent of antiseptic and the low hum of conversations surrounded them as Rune navigated the unfamiliar territory, her steps echoing with a mix of determination and trepidation. Entering Chris's office, Rune greeted her nervously. Chris, accustomed to the diverse range of emotions accompanying pack members seeking medical advice, offered a reassuring smile amidst the clinical surroundings.

She pulled out the same sheet of paper Cutter had presented to her a few weeks ago and stood to hand it to Liddy. She stared at the folded document a moment, looking Ru in the face, as if she was questioning what sort of nonsense this was, before snatching it away. “What is it?” She unfolded it, and Ru didn’t answer right away, letting her read. “A birth certificate? So what?” “Look at it. Read it.” “I did. What is your point?” Exasperated, Ru said, “Rune! My name is Rune, not Ruin.” Liddy looked at the document again, holding it closer to her face and then farther away as if she needed glasses, which she might’ve for all Ru knew. “This isn’t you.”

Madeleine shook her head, “Nope. She gave it to me purposely and made a big show to drive us out of the room.” This was getting weirdly confusing. Madeleine read through the note and I asked what does that note say? She replied in a grim voice, “It has a rune on it along with a few words written below it” “What does it say?” “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you." The thing looks like it might fall apart if we breathe on it too hard, but apparently, it’s the key to deciphering the rune. “Hold this for me,” she says, thrusting the book into my hands without looking up. I do as she asks, holding it steady while she flips through the pages with careful fingers. Her lips move as she reads, muttering something about symbols and alignment. Meanwhile, Ryder fiddles with one of the devices, probably just to keep his hands busy. Dixie sits silently in her chair, her face pale but calm, like she’s bracing herself for whatever’s about to happen.

I tapped my fingernail against the teacup - an old nervous habit. “Rose will be wrapping up running patrol along the cottage in a few minutes, and I’m sure you have things to discuss with your friend,” Marjorie said, finally breaking the silence. You carve what you want it to be, and once it’s awakened by the moon or blood, it sticks to that task. It can guard a place, hold something in, or keep danger away. That’s why runes are safer than most magic spells. They don’t act on emotion or anger. They only do what they were made to do, and nothing more.

The runes whispered to me in a language older than time, their meaning unraveling in my head like a long-lost melody. “Fiona!” Lyn yelled! “I need a moment!” I called over my shoulder, my voice barely carrying over the growls and the clash of steel against steel. “Make it quick, Fiona!” growled Jin, his body a blur of motion as he slashed at an oncoming figure. “We’re running out of time!” Kai yelled, struggling against two foes at once.
