Rune greeted. Rune was a lost lycan turned friend who had lost his family to those filthy monster, houndras. Terrifying monsters that had troubled the mundane and the lycan realm for years. “What do you want?” He asked. Rune knew Kai all too well. “I am sorry to disturb you , but I brought the annual report just as you requested.” Rune said bowing slightly,handing the tablet with the yearly report to Kai. “Hundred years!” Kai thundered as he flung the tablet against the wall.

Stood there, its form flickering, doing something I could only describe as recalculating. "Cover me." Aurelia's voice was steady, which was frankly unreasonable given the circumstances. "Don't let it reach me." Kaelen was already at the center rune, ripping black vines back with both hands, clearing the carved stone surface "The rune is clear!" he shouted back. "Go.. now!" Rylan was on his feet. I didn't know how. He was bleeding from his hairline and his leg was moving wrong, but he had his blade up and he was standing.

The ceiling is covered with protection runes and a second layer of energy, in case the first runes were not enough. There are no places to watch the training except in the small gallery with the computers. I touched one of the runes that was on the wall near me and in less than 3 seconds I could see the patterns and symbols of each race, that room was for protection and could hold the races that had been assigned to class 102. There are several types of writing as if several different people had written them, in addition to having some linking symbols that would not exist if it were only one person writing the spells. I also noticed the chaotic pattern that happened when the runes activated

However, I had more doubts so I asked, “What did you use it for? I mean what does this rune do?” My mother pulled the sweater she was wearing closer and stated, “Well, this one is an opening rune as far as I know. If you draw it backward it acts as a locking rune.” I raised an eyebrow and said in a careful tone. “Opening and closing what exactly?” Talia too became interested and waited for an answer as mom explained,

I tasted iron on my tongue and smiled. Rael stumbled as another tremor shook the citadel. “He’s bleeding into the runes! They’re overloading!” “Exactly what we need.” I rose, spreading my hands. The runes responded, drinking the power until the light turned blinding. “The more he gives, the deeper he sinks.” Outside, through the narrow windows, the valley twisted with fire and shadow. I could feel every heartbeat in that field, every scream swallowed by the storm. It was music, and I was its composer.

Runes carved into the rock itself. I can feel their eyes on us, my pack, my family, and for once, I don’t care about being looked at so closely. Ronan kneels, dipping his fingers into the bowl. When he draws the first mark across my chest, the heat bites sharp, then cools to a pulse that matches my heartbeat. He paints slowly, deliberately, tracing lines of meaning only he and I understand. The runes are older than language. Loyalty, strength, surrender, home, commitment, love.

I couldn’t take the words back now so I swallow my bottom lip instead and avert my gaze. Taking a deep breath, I feel Rune’s muscles relaxing on a slow exhale, but he doesn’t say a word, leaving me to feel a little bit exposed in the silence before his feet resumes its work up the stairs, then further into the hallway. Soon he’s standing in front of my bedroom door and he meticulously opens it with his right hand that’s underneath my legs.

"He's a runt, though. Don't expect him to move like a real worker. Oh, and before you start barking orders, let me show you something." She reached out, grabbing my chin in a tight, painful grip, forcing my face up. "Make sure he’s looking right at your mouth when you talk to him." Stone raised an eyebrow, his arms crossed over his chest. "Why? He too proud to listen?" "He’s half-deaf," Dalia explained, throwing me a disgusting smirk. "The Duke’s little secret. He reads lips. If you aren't facing him, he won't hear a word you say." It was the same humiliation my brother Draven used to subject me to in front of the crew when we were kids. They used to mock my silence, knowing the Duke wouldn'
