Ray stared at me. “You keep saying that name,” I said. “Who is Rylan?” The room went completely still. “What?” he said. “You’ve said that name three times,” I said. “Who is he?” Ray straightened up slowly. He looked at Marcus. Marcus’s face gave him nothing. He looked back at me. “Rylan Stark,” he said. Slowly. Like he was testing each word. “Elara’s brother. The Vipers president.” He paused. “Your best friend.”

Franklin’s POV I called his name once. He didn’t slow. I called it again, louder, trying to cut through the crowd noise and the medical team movement and the general controlled chaos of a player down on the ice. Rydan’s back was to me and he was moving with the particular directness of someone who has stopped filtering their movement through the consideration of how it looks. I went after him.

He mumbles, looking down at his desk. “I’m glad to hear that. Now, if that’s the case, can you please be Ainsley’s helper and introduce her to everyone this week?” She sounds nicer now. “Alright, Miss Ratner.” His eyes brighten up. He looks at me and smiles, “Hi! I’m Riley.” He has straight blonde hair that comes down to his chin. It’s a little tangled and looks like straw. I don’t think he brushed it this morning. He has hazel eyes and tan skin. He’s missing a couple of teeth that make his smile look funny.

"Yes, but you've already started to pour your heart. There is no going back now... Tell me how you feel about Celina being your mate." He laughs at my first words, then continues talking. He says eventually, noises behind him reveal the blonde girl that Flame was arguing with earlier. “Oh please be Darius’ friend.” She grins, pushing the boy out of the way and extending her hand. “I’m Gale. Gale Winters.” “Cain Harden.” I shake her hand quickly before dropping it and turning to the boy again, attempting to be pleasant when I just want him to get the fuck out of my way. “Darius told me we were going Tree Surfing.”
