The Vampire King's Abused Human Mate
The night was quiet around us as I listened to Mark chasing the shadows down the street and away from the house.
Her nose wrinkled and twitched, likely smelling the blood on my clothes. Then, her eyes fluttered. She turned over and curled closer to me, wrapping her arms around me in a tight embrace. Something stirred in me that I couldn’t quite name. It was familiar, yet it felt so distant, as if I had lost the feeling to time. I wrapped my arm around her and pulled her closer. Perhaps, after all these years of mourning, I had fallen in love again. How ironic that my wife had begun just as frail as this woman was, just as human.
