Even the woman faltered, nearly losing her footing at the sight.
“That’s impossible,” the bearded elder said, nearly losing his breath. “There hasn’t been a vampire sighting in centuries.”
“But that doesn’t mean they’re gone,” Valentine said, her tone sharp and instructive.
“And what makes you so sure of that?” the woman snapped, trying to regain control of the room.
Valentine didn’t flinch. Instead, she raised a brow and smirked.
“Because I fought one.”
She lifted her shirt, revealing the place where the vampire’s claws had stabbed into her side. Though the wound had healed, it had left behind a crescent-shaped scar.
