Then, a rasping voice, laced with a hint of madness, emerged from the darkness beneath the hood. "I… I was a scholar," it croaked, "driven by a thirst for knowledge forbidden. Now, I am… trapped, consumed by the whispers." A wave of empathy washed over Maya, the tracker known for her keen senses and compassionate nature. "We can help you," she offered cautiously, "but you have to let go of the book." The figure clutched the book tighter, its knuckles turning white. "The power… it promises freedom," it rasped, the whispers intertwining with its words. "Freedom from pain, from fear… from everything."

"Oh okay." The more realization settled within me, the more my tears threatened to spill and I didn't want to cry. I didn't want him to see me cry again, that would show him that his plan is working. I couldn't imagine a life of captivity waiting patiently for when your captor agrees to take your life and end your misery while meeting your family on the other side as the only flicker of happiness existing within you. It wouldn't take long before we reach his kingdom and his plan begins to unfold. I wonder whom he would kill first and how he was going to end their life and how he would choose to end me when he was done with them.

The captive’s eyes widened in horror and with a sharp violence and force that had him almost toppling over, he began rattling his limbs against the chair to set himself free. “I'm very well aware Vivienne is the mastermind” Alessandro murmured, voice deep and steady “Her sins are piling and her day of reckoning isn't far behind” He crouched to the man’s bloody face, holding the needle stiffly before him “Listen carefully. You don't touch the Don’s woman and go free” His voice curled sharply. The captive shook his head “I only followed orders…there was a real doctor…she…she helped, I was once in the medical field…don’t kill me…”

Her words rang in my head, reminding me of the future she told me before I was captured. The captive chains must refer to how I'm being held prisoner. I need to be courageous in a place as fierce as this. My beacon of light will be this unlikely ally. I think I know exactly who it refers to. They need to become my friend, so that I can convince them to help me escape. It's the only way I am going to be able to leave this place.

And at the slightest chance I get, I'm going to reclaim my freedom and re-unite with all my family members. "Yes, Cera," I say. "We will be free again, one day." I was so distracted by my thoughts and my conversation with Cera that I didn't realize that the cart had stopped. I can't see past the cages that surrounds me so it's hard to make out what the citizens look like or what the Kingdom is like. "Isla." Cera whimpers my name as her cage is hoisted up in the air and placed on the ground. Her cage is opened and she crawls out slowly like a tortoise.
