Hearing this, Purple fell silent. Vance waited patiently. Just as he thought she had fallen asleep, she suddenly said, "Why don't we call them Luci, Toto and gumbo ?" "They will hate you when they grow up," Vance laughed. Purple also laughed, "The elders all say that a pet name should be as corny as possible. That way, the child would be easy to take care of. “A dog’s name must be concise. One or two syllables. Clear verbal pronunciation for command recognition.” Leo blinked again, utterly lost. I leaned in, smoothing his hair. “What Papa means is… we need a simple name so the puppy can understand when you call her to play.” “Oh,” Leo said, thinking hard. “What about… Fluffy?” Damien’s eyes twitched—not pleased with the name. I held back another giggle. “Well, it’s a nice name for her,” I said diplomatically. “It’s too… soft,” Damien stated matter-of-factly. “Try something else, Leo.”

Chloe put up her hand, let it get a good sniffing, and then pet the dog gently on her head. “What’s your name?” Chloe asked her. Grace sat down next to her sister and whispered something in her ear. The girls looked at each other and nodded. “Selene,” Grace said, though it was very quiet. The puppy sniffed at her knee. “That’s a perfect name,” I said. “I have to confess, I’ve always wanted a puppy, and this is just about the cutest little thing I’ve ever seen.” Grace nodded. Chloe was now busy stroking the puppy’s back. The puppy, Selene, turned around and gently mouthed her. Chloe giggled.
