Exactly 3pm in the afternoon when I moved to prepare. I took another shower, but it was brief since I had already broken a sweat. After showering, I changed my clothes. I wore a simple black shirt, gray jogging pants, and white rubber shoes. I left my hair down to let it dry. I also applied some powder to my face and a touch of lipstick. I slid my phone and my nearly empty wallet into the pockets of my jogging pants. I put on a black cap and brought a facemask along.

Hunters. “Shadowthorn sends a message!” one roared. “The Alpha wants his heirs!” Aria shoved the twins behind her, blades already drawn. “Over my dead body.” Luka’s shadows flared. Lila growled, tiny body vibrating with power. The lead hunter lunged. Aria met him mid air, driving both blades into his chest. Hot blood sprayed across her face. She twisted, using his momentum to slam him into the second attacker. Luka’s shadows wrapped the third wolf’s legs, yanking him down. Lila pounced, ripping out his throat with a snarl that was far too mature for her age.

Shadow was on his feet before the sound had even faded. A runner appeared, his breath ragged from the sprint, holding out a leather packet. Shadow took it without a word, his dark eyes narrowing as he recognized the seal. He broke it open. His jaw tightened with each line. When he looked up, Runa was already standing at the door of the tent, the faint scent of her healing oils trailing in with her. “What is it?” she asked, reading the tension in his face. “Nightfang just sent for me,” he said slowly.

Shadow was on his morning run as usual when he ran past the packhouse, only to have Malik, his wolf, try to force him into the communal showers, the FEMALE communal showers. But, if you want to go for a run then who am I to say no?“ he kissed my hair and laid his chin on my shoulder. “Would you like some company on your run?” “Do you even have to ask?” I turned my head and kissed his cheek. “Alright let’s go. But first, take your dress off so you won’t destroy it during your shift.”

He watched in horror as they both approached and, with shaky hands, started unlocking and unwrapping the numerous chains around his arms, torso and legs. Shadow didn’t wait for the last shackle on his ankle to be unlocked as he stood and broke the chain. “The Council would get involved,” Derek said with his head down. “They will end this, and whatever you want will be lost to you forever.” ‘Listen to him,’ he begged. But Shadow ran out of the back door into the woods, leaving his pack mates in the house. He could not fully shift because of the silver in his blood, so he started running. Ava’s scent was so strong in this form that it was like a beacon, leading Shadow right to her.

I stumble again, my feet slipping, and the shadow seems to pause for just a moment like it’s waiting for me to catch up. I run. I keep running, the dark ground shifting beneath me, trembling like it’s alive. My feet slap against the soft, unseen surface, every step feeling like I’m getting closer to something—anything. But the closer I get to the shadow, the farther it drifts, pulling me deeper into this endless void. I reach out, my fingers just grazing the air where I thought it was. I can’t tell if it’s real if it’s truly Damien, but I know I can’t give up.
