I don't have an umbrella, so I hurry towards the front door, my coat pulled tightly around me in a futile attempt to stay dry. The rain obscures my vision, transforming familiar surroundings into a blur of dark shapes and shifting shadows. I squint through the sheets of water cascading from the sky, barely able to make out the pathway ahead.
