The guardians followed his gaze, and indeed, a dark form seemed to be approaching, its energy clashing with the radiant vibes of the grove. Isolde, her instincts kicking in, said, "We need to intercept, and understand its intentions." Liora, holding out her hand, produced a gentle orb of light. "Let's use this to guide the shadow, lure it closer." The shadow, drawn to Liora's orb, began to take a more defined shape as it neared — a cloaked figure, its face hidden, emanating an aura of chaos and disruption.

I can hear the rain pounding against the windows, and I know my SpongeBob shorts are going to be soaked through by the time I reach the bottom. My heart slammed against my ribs. Then I saw them. Shapes circling the car. Eyes glowing through the rain. Rogues. They weren’t just passing through. They were hunting. “Damn it,” I hissed. The rain intensified, soaking everything. No sign it would stop. I shoved open the driver’s door and stumbled out into the storm. My boots sank into mud instantly. Cold rain lashed against my face, blinding and brutal.

Hazel was startled awake, her whole body trembling. She opened her eyes and saw a dark shadow by her bed. She also heard the sound of dripping water, faint but not enough to make her heart race. Outside, the rain was pouring down, the streetlights dimmer than usual, and wind howling loudly. She shuddered and clutched her blanket tightly, screaming, "Ah! Ghost!" Jack was taken aback by Hazel's reaction, then overwhelmed with anger. Ghost? His handsome face twisted slightly, and he cracked his knuckles.

Rain is ready to strip the skin off anyone too slow to hide. “Over there! A cave opening!” Ash points toward a tall moss-covered rock formation in the distance. We have to reach it before this rain destroys our lungs and skin. But through the thick acidic mist clouding my vision, I hear something. Another growl from beyond the trees. Something that seems to enjoy this deadly rain.

Shadow water touched four of the ninjas and all of them succumbed to darkness, leaving behind no trace at all. The shadow eater shot towards Hikari and me. Hikari slashed his Katana, shooting out bright blue and white light like the waves of the ocean. The shadow eater veered, changed its projectile and then shot at us again. Yuki roared, chasing after the shadow eater. We were so distracted in handling the one in front of us we lost track of the ones who were still trying to get out of the crater. “Zeve! Watch out!” Rage yelled, and it was then I saw that four of them had been released already.

She pointed to a shadow just behind the podium. I ran towards it, feeling Topher and Zerena following closely behind. They moved the shadows in front of me, creating a path to the intended shadow. The shadow was making its way to us as well, speeding things up. I watched as it jumped off the ground and landed right over Auggie in my arms. It draped over him sinking into every pore in his skin. He was like a little sponge soaking up a black liquid. I felt him take a deep breath, opening his eyes wide. I swear it almost sounded like the other shadows groaned in disappointment.

So, I simply sat there in the quiet, staring blankly at the wall until the sound of rain began to softly patter against the roof. Looking out the window, I heard the joyful shouts of the neighborhood children who were already running out to play in the downpour. I stood up and stepped out onto my small porch. I watched the kids sprinting back and forth across the dirt paths as the rain steadily grew heavier and more intense. Slowly, a small, genuine smile formed on my lips. How many years had it been since I last played in the rain? Had it been back when I was still a teenager? It had truly been such a long time.

“You’re drooling, Little River.” He teases lightly, and I flush. “Sorry” I murmur, but before he can say anything, something moves beside him and moves towards me as if coming in for a hug. I scream and jump back, only to take a close look… What in the Dr. Facilier shit, is this? Is that his shadow casually coming my way? “I-uh-I…” “Back.” He says, and the shadow seems to deflate sadly and then retreat into his actual shadow.
