A lost book. Caitlin got up, encouraged, returning the books to the library clerk, and went back to the computer. She changed her keyword search terms. Lost cities. Mythical cities. Legendary cities. Vampire cities. Vampire races. Lost races. Extinct races…. Caitlin tried dozens of combinations, and this time she ended up with an improbably huge list of books, hundreds of them, having to do with lost civilizations and lost cities and races. They were mostly about mythology and archaeology in general, and not about vampires. Yet she found it encouraging nonetheless. Maybe she needed to think of the vampires as a lost race, a lost people, a lost city.

Most likely one of the only humane things I had or would ever do in my lifetime. Hunters were a different story. They had training and skill more than the average mortal, but my clan had little run-ins with them so far, although their interference to neighboring clans had become worrisome. Hunters were unbiased when it came to wolves and vampires. They despised us both equally. That did not matter much to me. I viewed them as more of a gnat, a pest, than an adversary.

The prophecy was doomed to fail under an Alpha like Bram. My head pounded as we crossed rickety bridges and cobbled roads, although the shifter healing had sorted the wound, there was sticky dried blood in my hair that I hadn’t been able to rinse out. The further on our journey we travelled the more I determined not to wash it out. Let people wonder why the future Luna has suffered injury.

Reaching the absolute end of the concrete maze, the narrow path finally opened up into the wide, brightly lit expanse of the multi-lane highway. Hissing through her teeth, her breath coming in ragged, painful gasps, Seven’s strength gave out the moment her boots hit the asphalt of the highway shoulder. She dropped heavily onto her knees, her vision swimming with dark spots as blood loss and exhaustion caught up to her. Before she could even gather enough breath to push herself back up to her feet, a sleek, dark luxury sedan tore around the curve, its tires screeching violently as it slammed to a halt directly in front of her collapsing form.

I want to hug Shaun, but I don't want my brother to see me naked. "Can someone please explain to me what's going on? Why are you hugging a panther, and where the hell is Sherri?" I guess it's time to tell Jon about the world of shifters. We also need to figure out what we're going to do with Adam and Lester. I'm not willing to let them walk away from here to jail. I'm a panther now and think panther justice is in order. This should be fun.

They weren’t always together, but I saw their faces multiple times. It was apparent they were scoping the house out. Our safehouse isn’t all that safe. Given these men are out during the day, they must be humans working for the vampires. Either unknowingly or knowingly. You can’t imagine how many people want to become a vampire. I blame that dumbass book and movie trilogy Twilight. And to an extent, I’ll pass the blame to Vampire Diaries. It’s better but still perpetuates this fantasy of being a vampire. People should watch more Supernatural. Now that is a show getting things right. Though it’s also the show that got a lot of dumb American hunters into hunting with no real skill or clue, thi

Tell her what the Shadow Hunters really are." Kieran's face went hard. "Not now." "Yes, now." Marcus's grin was vicious. "The Shadow Hunters aren't just survivors from collapsed realms. Beyond the familiar, and there… there’s a wrongness. Faint. Distant. But unmistakable. A pressure that doesn’t belong to the land, creeping forward long before bodies ever will. I can’t see faces or numbers yet, but I feel intent, cold and calculating, moving slowly, patiently. Hunters, not close, but coming. I suck in a sharp breath and pull the awareness back instinctively, curling into Callen as the weight of it settles into my bones. He feels it immediately. “Paige?” I nod against his chest. “I can sense them. The hunters, the corruption they carry.”
