The smell of soap and heat drifts in with him.
“I’m here as you requested,” he says, voice low, warm, a smirk striking across his lips.
“Someone has to do your maintenance,” I say, my voice catching halfway.
His gaze moves from me to the glowing monitor, then back, a look in his eyes. “I think I’m fine”
Before I can answer, the lights flicker once. Twice. Then cut out completely, leaving just the low blue glow of server racks and the faint pulse of standby LEDs.
A beat of silence hangs, broken only by the hum of machines. My chest tightens. “Damn… power glitch,” I whisper. My hand hovers near the keyboard.
