“You like?” I crouch down to run my hand through the luminescent water. It’s like a thousand stars in the flowing water and when I lift my hand, it’s almost as if the stars are mixed inside. I look at Jesse, awestruck, and he just looks pleased, “I knew you’d like it.” “How is it-?” He shrugs, “I don’t know.” He kneels by my side, “There are a lot of strange places like these all over the islands. This water only glows on specific nights when the moon is at a particular angle.”

I followed his gaze. There, set in a raised circle of polished onyx and marble etched with runes, sat a basin—wide, shallow, and impossibly still. The water inside shimmered with unnatural clarity, like a liquid crystal held in stasis. It pulsed with the faintest light, glowing not from beneath, but from within.

Shama wondered which celestial body she most resembled: the lone moon, shining brightly in the darkness, or the countless unknown stars, twinkling beside it, their light unseen by most. The clear water in front of her reflected the moon's ethereal beauty. Suddenly, a firefly landed on her nose. Shama held her breath, captivated by its delicate beauty. Pressing her sleeve over it, she squeezed until droplets soaked through the wood. The water glowed immediately ,revealing a cluster of pale, moon-kissed mushrooms. They shimmered faintly, silver-capped and perfect. Serena’s lips curved into a tired smile as she plucked them and filled her basket. High above ,in the arena, they were quiet, stunned at her cleverness. Kaelen’s gaze sharpened. He said nothing, but deep inside, he was forced to admit that the human was clever. He dismissed the thought coldly, refusing to linger.

“You don’t have to tolerate that kind of treatment anymore.” Mrs. Maddy nodded, giving me a grateful smile before walking out of the room. Bailey immediately grabbed a glass of juice and took a long drink. “Wow! This juice is amazing,” she said, her eyes widening. “The ginger flavor really stands out.” I poured myself a glass as well and took a sip. Then look down at the water and see my reflection. My eyes are glowing like a blue neon sign. They're large and shiny. I close them and open them in hopes that it's some kind of hologram, but they're still glowing like beacons. “I-I-I I've never seen them do this.” I stutter, horrified. Amara shrugs. “Maybe it's a Siren thing.” I gaze at her dubiously. “Okay, then why would they glow now?” Amara gestures to the pool. “Well, Sirens are water creatures. Maybe it's your way of telling you that the water is fine.”

Lightning cracked, and thunder boomed, a fitting symphony to the mystical process. Finally, with a great and triumphant shout, the Shaman cast the ingredients into the churning waters of the Aqua de Vida. And as they disappeared beneath the surface, the sky cleared, the sun shone down, and a hush fell over the land. For a moment, nothing happened. And then, slowly, the waters of the lake began to shimmer and glow, a brilliant and beautiful light shining from within. And as the Shaman and all those gathered watched, a floating blob of Elixir of Life was born, a potion of unrivaled healing and magic.

The liquid inside glowed faintly with soft silver light, like moonlight trapped beneath glass. The Life Stream. Even holding it made the air feel lighter. Cleaner. Alive.
