She turned to see Kael stumble forward, his eyes adjusting to the unreal glow.
Suddenly, figures began to form from the mist. Phantom versions of themselves—twisted by fear, anger, lust, and regret. Shadows of their pasts. Each one whispered doubts, secrets, and sins.
“You’ll never be enough,” a shadow Luna sneered, circling her.
“She’ll leave you like they all did,” a shade whispered into Kael’s ear, its voice a perfect echo of his mother’s rejection.
But Luna didn’t flinch. She stepped into her shade, letting its words pierce her heart. “I wasn’t enough once,” she said softly. “But I’ve grown. I’ve burned. I’ve earned my place.”
