Each shiver is a silent confession, and I savor this vertigo I have already sown within him. I reach out, brush his cheek, then his neck, letting my fingers linger gently, as if to awaken a sensation his mind is trying to repress. His eyes close more tightly, his jaw relaxes slightly, and I feel his breath become shorter, warmer. I subtly guide his hands, his arms, each contact a silent signal, an invitation to surrender to the choreography I dictate.

He shrugged, his own concentration stuck on the book. He was curious as well as I was. Finally, I gave the book a long scrutinizing look, turning it this way and that all the while buying Neilla time. It was a book alright, one without a way to view its content. It had a vial like structure fixed into the hard cover on the front. In that vial was blood slushing as I moved the book about. It was off-putting in every way including the foul odor emanating from it. I flicked at the cover with my middle finger, raising my eyes in surprise when Sapphira flinched.

One day I will just see him doing this to me face to face? I closed the book with both of my hands. I started putting the books I have borrowed. I excluded the book that Sheira let me borrow because it's my favorite book. I just held it and rested it on my left arm. Sheira also packed up, as she preferred being silent. She knew that one, wrong word from her and she'll be dead. I saw her biting her lower lip. "Wait, are we going to ask him who she was? You know, for confirmation..."

His voice shifted from that of his human to that of his wolf as his eyes flickered from sapphire blue to pitch red. This time, it was my wolf, who took control. She wanted to tease Thorin. "What are you waiting for?" Shiva seductively shook my body, making my breasts bounce, earning us both a growl from Thorin. "Ow! You want this so badly, huh?!" Shiva bit my lower lip as she batted my eyelashes. She wasn't even contented that she gently pushed Thorin up and got out of bed.

Her maw opened to drag air into her heaving lungs as her canines peeked out from her jaw. She moved like a ghost across the land and yet the world around felt her presence. Creatures shrank away as she passed, the very air falling still. She wasn't alone though. The shadows danced and darted around her as she sped through the night, heart thundering in her rib cage to the point it felt it would burst from her chest like a nuclear bomb detonating. The shadows closed in, but they didn't swallow Chloe up. They moved with her, their fur soft but cold, their feet thundering across the frozen land in unison with her as if it were the beat of some primal war drum.

As I started grabbing all the books I needed for the first four periods, I freeze, my brain registering Jackie's next words. "London Morse!" London Morse?! "Yes!" Jackie exclaims, bringing me to the realization that I thought out loud. I pivot on my heels and grab her shoulders excitedly, "Like the guitarist from Crash Course Rebellion, London Morse? London Morse that went to this very school London Morse?!" Jackie nods quickly and I feel my heart stop in my chest. London Morse is by far one of the most handsome men to ever grace this planet we call Earth but above all he is so talented and so cool.

As I pulled the humble meal from my satchel, I hear a voice. “Hello?” The voice is thin and reedy, old. I respond. “Hello, there.” Out of the dimming forest, limps a small old woman. She leaned heavily on her cane, so many shawls hanging around her that it was impossible to say where the shawls ended, and the woman began. It drove me insane. Sure it was chilly at night, but even three shawls would be oversufficient, and the grandmother had far more than three.

My heart skipped. I moved closer, scanning the titles until one name leapt out at me like a struck nerve. Dead Viles… The moment I read it, my stomach twisted to nausea. I pulled the text free and opened it, my fingers trembling despite myself. Unlike Lunareeth, this book was filled with dense writing, diagrams etched in faded ink, and warning seals pressed into the margins. Dead Viles. A deadly, ancient poison. I started reading about it, and the more I read, the more my heart shuddered with a cold chill…

He didn’t move, didn’t blink, and for a moment, I thought maybe it was nothing. Maybe we were safe. And then I saw the flicker of movement. A shadow darted between the ruins, barely more than a blur, but it was enough to set my heart racing.

I needed to get out of here, but my body refused to listen to me. I heard the bushes move, and I started to shiver. I could see the person’s shadow moving slowly towards me. I stood rooted in place and cursed myself in my mind. Why couldn’t I move? Damn it I needed to run. “Don’t be afraid, little one.” A soft voice echoed from his lips as he made his way into view. “I promise I’m not going to hurt you, little human.” The air I was holding in my lungs finally escaped, only to be replaced with uneven and ragged breaths.
