A man hit by a car in New York in 1977 got up uninjured, but lay back down in front of the car when a bystander told him to pretend he was hurt so he could collect the insurance money. My eldest sister, Lily, was about to turn 18. Soon, it would be time for her coming-of-age ceremony. However, Grandma, who had always doted on her, had forbidden her from attending.
