I stepped into the shower and turned on the hot water. I winced as the steaming drops hit my skin. But I remained under it, hoping the water would somehow erase all the thoughts I did not want to have. While I was in there- though I knew it was impossible- I seemed to hear the chant of those gathered outside- the ritual chant and prayer to the goddess to accept the deceased's departing soul. I increased the pressure of the water till it fell around me in sheets, becoming a roar that I hoped would drown out my chaotic thoughts.

I step under the shower with a smile on my face as cold water rushes over my body soothing me. Still going over everything that happened yesterday I get an urge to pleasure myself at the thought of yesterday’s passion and I try to ignore it pushing all sexual thoughts out of my mind. But even with this, my imagination kicks in and brings up the image of him in the shower with me, running his hands over my body slowly and sensually. To this thought, I feel my body heat up in contrast to the cold water and I’m about to kick my fantasy up a notch when I hear a knock on the bathroom door.

Perhaps that could distract me today. The sound of running water whispered in the background as I made my way to the bathroom, and my mind was still busy with thoughts of what happened last Sunday. The shower's warm cascades enveloped me, washing away the remnants of sleep, but failed to dispel these troubling thoughts I kept having. As steam curled and rose, filling the air with a well-welcomed warmth, I couldn't revel in this moment, one that I often looked forward to. You see, the simple pleasure of water against my skin usually went a long way in clearing my mind and readying me for the day ahead. It didn't today.

The sound of the running water provided a soothing backdrop as my thoughts swirled with plans for the impending disciplinary actions. As the warmth of the shower enveloped me, I allowed the soothing water to wash away the tension that had accumulated within. I move to the shelf and start placing my essentials in the shower area. When everything’s in place, I pry the robe off my body and hang it by the rail. I step under the warm water and close my eyes, letting the steam warm my skin. I lather slowly, dragging the sponge across every inch of my body, as if I can scrub the thoughts from my head. Every time I think I’ve got a hold of myself, something pulls me right back into this spiral. His stare. His voice. The way he walked past me and blocked my path in one casual stance. I scrub harder.

I brushed my teeth first and rinsed my mouth with mouth wash multiple times before I discarded my clothes and in the shower I went. The pressure of the water had me gasping. The water poured from everywhere, like a fountain. I was in heaven, eyes closed, moaning in pleasure. The bathroom turned steamy, fast. This was therapy, I could see myself here multiple times a day. After a while I began washing, knowing these showers would be the highlight of my days. I froze mid thought. Why was I thinking as if I was going to stay here? The words Ryan had spoken hours back slipped back to my mind.

I did need to have a really hot shower. Removing my clothes with speed, I did not waste any time jumping into the shower in my large tiled bathroom, nor did I waste any time in scrubbing myself up and down. While I showered, I tried to keep back the intrusive thoughts that had been invading my mind ever since I had that argument with Dr Grey.

No matter how much I tried to stay optimistic, no matter how I tried to stay calm, I couldn’t do it, I couldn’t stop thinking about all the things that could go wrong. I must have checked the phone he left me at least a thousand times, just to be sure he hadn’t left a message—there were never any messages. Just the home screen staring back at me. I walked into the bathroom to take a shower—like that would get my mind off him. I took off my clothes and stepped into the shower enclosure. Cold shower has a way of getting rid of creepy thought and keeping the mind focus on showering up and getting out of the shower just as quickly without wasting any more time thinking or fantasizing about someone who was just in the next room. ** Ten minutes later,I got out of the shower and pulled a towel and had it wrapped around my lower body with another in hand and toweling my hair dry and pull on a fresh pair of black shirt with an equally black jeans to go with. My head felt heavy — too many thoughts racing at once. Maybe it was better to leave it alone. I dragged myself into the bathroom, my head still swirling with too many thoughts. I cranked the shower on and let the water run hot — hot enough to sting my skin. I stood under the spray, letting it wash over me, hoping it would drown out the noise in my head. When I finally stepped out of the shower, I felt lighter. Not completely okay, but… better. I wrapped the towel around my chest, my hair still dripping down my back as I padded toward the door.
