When she had walked halfway across the quad, head down and lost in thought, when a familiar voice cut through the low chatter of campus traffic.
“Hey, Gemma. Wait up. Where you going?”
She looked up and found herself face to face with Chase’s easy smile. She blushed a little, but smiled back. “Hey, Chase. Just heading out to get something to eat—see if I can kill this hangover.”
Chase laughed. “You’re not much of a drinker, are you?”
Gemma pulled her vape from her pocket. “This is my habit of choice. It’s funny, really—my brother and his best friend own a bar, and I hardly ever touch the stuff.”
