My mind kept racing as suddenly, the lock on the basement door clicked. One of Thorne's guards stepped out, holding Mira by her upper arm as Mira looked pale. Her dark hair was messy, and her silk blouse was torn at the shoulder, but when she saw the television screen, a small, ugly smile twisted her lips. She looked at me, then at Nichole. "Silas is thorough, isn't he?" Mira said with her voice raspy from hours of sitting in the dark cell. "He does not stop until the ground is totally black."

“That Mira was watching.” All eyes turn to her. Mira steps fully into the circle now. “I memorized your sigils,” she says quietly. “Every one. Not bad for a whore, right?” Elira’s gaze snaps back to me. “You couldn’t have known.” “I didn’t need to,” I say. “You taught me everything.” The dagger glows brighter. Cracks spiderweb across the collars. Elira lunges one last time. I catch the fallen sword and drive it clean through her heart.

The one Mira Hale had silenced before the Pact was ever written. The soil pulsed. Kaima recoiled, not in fear in awe. Because the name had been heard. And remembered. Ari returned to Mira’s journal at twilight. Her hands trembled now as she flipped through its weathered pages. Halfway down the final entry barely inked, half-erased by water Mira had written: “If they ever walk beyond the bloom’s silence, tell them it will no longer show them reflections. It will show them consequences.” Ari sat back hard against the vault wall.

The first wave of air hit my face as soon as I stepped into the woods, and at once, scattering all the strands of hair I had worked so hard to put in place all over my face. I flicked a strand of hair backward to gain clear vision. And just as I thought, Mira was standing at her favorite spot. At the top of a single rock, staring into the horizon, as if she was trying to catch the sight of the sun as it traveled to its place behind the horizon. Once again, seeing her standing there, with her skin so perfect as if it was made of emerald, I was reminded of what a perfect woman she was, no wonder I was utterly obsessed over her.

Authority? I turned toward the dark beings and raised my voice again, more carefully. “I’m Mira. I came here looking for the Last Witches. I mean no harm. My mother led me here.” At first, nothing happened. Then slowly—so slowly I barely noticed—the shadows began to shrink. They slithered back into the mist, evaporating like smoke on a breeze. The cold receded. The humming ceased. Silence. The shadow guards turned toward me, battle-worn but silent. I glared at them.

“Did you win?” Mira looked down at the red-glowing threshold ahead. “No,” she said. “I just bought us one more level.” Then the lights went black. All of them. From the dark, a child’s voice whispered through the static. “Mira Lane… I’ve been waiting for you.” End of Chapter Forty-One ––––––––––––––––––

Nueva and Evie said in unison. "A Banshee can premonish death by hearing voices in their minds", Mira explained. Shivers ran down Nueva's back, and she exhaled a low sigh. She was secretly glad to have become a werewolf and not a Banshee. "She taught me something else I would like to try with you guys tonight" Mira's voice sounded excited. "As long as it's not an Ouija board" Evie shrugged her shoulders nervously. "No, nothing like that." Mira chuckled, making her curly fiery red hair bop. "So, what she said was, you put a glass of water in a window at night in the light of the moonshine."

Kira and I jerked away from each other and to my utmost annoyance, Mira was the one at the door looking livid. “Have you lost your mind, Mira? Why did you make such an entrance?” I asked, holding Kira down with my hand when she attempted to stand up. I saw Mira's eyes lock on the location of my hand. “I should be asking you what you are doing with that slut!” She screamed. Kira gasped, staring at me. “What is she talking about?”

From the shadows, silhouetted figures began to emerge, their eyes glowing with an eerie light. Selene's voice, filled with urgency, echoed from a distance, "Guardians, be wary! The harp doesn't just bridge realms; it also attracts those who dwell in the spaces between." The guardians, now encircled by the shadowy entities, readied themselves for a confrontation. But as the first notes of a counter-melody began to form, a massive rift cracked open in the sky, revealing an army of mirrored beings from various realities, led by the all-too-familiar mirrored Isolde.

“No! They’re coordinates! They are three separate coordinates, all leading to specific locations on the map!” “Which map? Please tell me it’s a map of Earth.” Rider looked up the ceiling as if he was praying. “It is a map of Earth! And… the coordinates from the first letter correspond with…” Ru closed her eyes and crossed her fingers on both hands. “Please say Reaper’s Hollow. Please say Reaper’s Hollow. Please say Reaper’s Hollow.” A broad smile broke out across Lyric’s face. In a quiet voice, she said, “It is Reaper’s Hollow.”
