But there was something about Mira that felt different. Maybe, it was the way she was eager to listen to Hazel, or the way her eyes softened in the dark dungeon. Hazel knew that she was supposed to be wary of anyone who wanted to know more about her, but somehow, she found herself thinking that there was no harm in talking to Mira. She let out a heavy sigh as she drew her knees close to her chest and leaned on them.

MIRA’S POV The water was cold. It filled my ears, my nose, my mouth. I felt weightless, floating in the silence beneath the surface. I kept my eyes shut, squeezing them tight. But the memories wouldn’t stop. Gunshots. Pain. His voice. You should have never come into my life. The sound of my own screams. I opened my mouth to breathe, but the water rushed in.
