Don’t ask me her name because I have no fucking idea. She’s a hook up, a puck bunny. They’re everywhere and trust me when I say they literally drop their panties at the sight of a hockey player, especially me. “Positive.” I grin. “Alright. Don’t start crying when I embarrass you.” A chorus of oohhhhs comes from the kids around us, and Kade groans, rubbing a hand over his face. “Rook, if you don’t shut the fuck up...” I lunge. Stick slapping against the pavement, I steal the puck before he even finishes his sentence, shoving past him as one of the kids on my team cheers in the background. “HEY!” Kade shouts, whipping around after me.

It was impossible. They were hanging over the plexiglass, shaking the boards, and holding up massive, neon poster boards that made my stomach twist into sickening knots. MERCER’S MATTRESS.* *DISTRACTION ON ICE.* And then, the ones that made my throat close up and my eyes burn, the ones scrawled with ugly, jagged letters that spelled out slurs I hadn’t heard since I was a kid in middle school. Every time I touched the puck, a chorus of boos rained down on me, so loud it vibrated right through my helmet and rattled my teeth.

"Is Ken actually coming?" I felt the question hit somewhere it had no business hitting. She did not say it at anyone specifically as it just floated out there the way Tacha's questions always did, carelessly and without thinking about where they landed. But I could tell the moment it left her mouth, I knew it was really a question aimed at me. I opened my mouth to respond and then Aria cut in first. "I heard from Ethan — from their hockey team, that they got jumped by the other team after the last game." She lowered her voice like she was sharing something important. "Apparently the other team brought backup. Like a lot of people and I think some of them ended up in the hospital."

SIENNA'S POV “So you are really dating the hockey guy?” Dolvin’s voice cut through the low, comforting hum of the lounge, her fork hovering halfway to a slice of truffle flatbread. Across the banquette, the rest of our small circle leaned in, glasses clinking against the marble table as they waited for confirmation of the rumor that had been dominating our group chat for forty-eight hours. “Yes,” I replied, offering a smooth, convincing smile that didn't reach my eyes quite enough to look defensive, but held enough warmth to sell it entirely. “I am. The rumours are true ladies, this girl right here has finally found love.”

"Seriously. Who the hell has the almighty Hunter Callum looking this relaxed on a Monday morning?" "Our captain's glowing." Another teammate whistled. "So in loveeee..." Nick sang dramatically. Hunter laughed despite himself. "Fuck you, Nick." "There it is!" Dean slapped the counter. "He smiled." "The man smiled!" "We're witnessing history," Carter declared solemnly. Hunter cracked another egg into the pan. "You people need hobbies." "We have hobbies." Dean nodded. "Hockey." "And making your life miserable," Dean added proudly. Hunter shook his head. "I've noticed."

“Well, someone's all flared up. I can almost see how the hair on your neck stands out. Makes me start to think your wolf really is weaker. You're definitely not a beta.” “That is none of your business.” “The required rank to join hockey teams in this pack stops at Beta. You're not one. That's really shady. Really really shady.” And then, I heard the sound of the blade scratching the ice and the puck running out of my hold. I let out a grunt before turning around. My eyes stayed pinned on his backview. That bastard. I started skating hurriedly. I had to get back the puck and win. A lot was at risk.

In his hand, Adrian held the black, rubber game puck the official championship puck from the opening match. "For the photographer of the night," Adrian said softly, stepping into Ethan's space. He reached out, pressing the cold rubber puck into Ethan’s palm. "My good luck charm. I wouldn't have made it onto the ice today without you." Ethan looked down at the puck, then up at Adrian. "Adrian, I was just doing my job. I'm glad you're safe." "It's more than that, Ethan. And you know it," Adrian murmured.

“He is a manipulative prick. Thinks because he is hot and rich and has a jawline, no one remembers how toxic he was in high school.” A few heads turned. I didn’t stop. “Guy literally ruined people. But now he gets girls and parties and praise. What a joke.” Laughter near the couch stopped. I met Ryder’s eyes across the room. He was no longer smiling. “Are you done?” he asked, stepping forward slowly. “Not even close.” His jaw twitched. “Careful, Zach. That mouth is going to write a check you won't be able to cash.” “I’m not scared of you,” I shot back.

Hawk has an arm around mine which is in full punch mode. “Go fuck your mother.” I yell at the asshole who has cornered me, the puck was mine, it was mine for the taking and it would have been a good shot. Sometimes, it can pretty mean and nasty on the ice like today. The guys we’re playing are total fuckers.
