Noah The hum of the car blends with Nolan’s off-key singing from the backseat, a tune I couldn’t place but one he’s singing with so much conviction I didn’t have the heart to stop him. Beside him, Nova is trying to braid her doll’s hair while instructing her brother, rather loudly, that he's singing it wrong. “It’s la-la-la, not na-na-na, Nolan,” she insists, her tone carrying all the authority of a five-year-old who believes she’s queen of the world.

“I’ve done everything up there, but some nights I just serve drinks, flirt a little, keep them happy, and head back down. No pressure.” My head was already spinning. The more he talked, the heavier the reality of what I was about to do settled on my shoulders. Diego noticed and smirked. “Relax. "I… I am fine," Vanessa forced out through gritted teeth. "In that case, both of you, go and tend to yourselves," Alaric said, clearing his throat. He then looked toward the center of the competition grounds and ordered, "Continue."

In desperation, I kicked over everything in my path and screamed at the top of my lungs, "Help! Someone's trying to abduct a woman here!" At first, the bystanders remained indifferent, but as I caused more of a scene, their patience wore thin. One by one, they surrounded Julian, cutting off his escape.

Diego asked him, his tone calm and gentle. “Honestly, Diego, I think I wanna read it out from my paper. I don't think I can recite it by heart”, Noah confessed, a hint of surrender in his eyes. “Alright then. Take your paper along if it would boost your confidence”, Diego said, patting his shoulders gently. Just then, they could hear the host call his name. “Now, ladies and gentlemen, put your hands together for our next performer, a new student who joined us at grade two, Noah Dominic!”

I said, crossing my arms. “Then Bailey and I should go, you’ll definitely scare her the fuck off,” Trey said, tapping his finger on the table like Slade does when he’s making a point. Slade nodded. “No! I’m going,” I said, snatching the note and walking off. I barely made it halfway through Slade’s living room before Jude cut me off. “But we still don’t know if she even sings,” he asked, grabbing my arm. “Trey can sing if we get desperate. I can do background vocals good enough. But come on, Eruption man,” I said, making my case for her.
