He digs a small notebook out of his pocket and scribbles. I inch closer to peek over his shoulder. He’s sketching a very rudimentary diagram of the valley. “What are you doing?” He blinks up. His lips curve ruefully, and he holds up his drawing. It looks like a stick figure with a triangle for its head. I plop down next to him and snag my backpack. It feels nice to sit. I usually meander, but I’ve been pushing myself so Cadoc doesn’t slow himself to a patronizing crawl, and he has a much longer stride than I do.

And tonight, her mind was unusually busy. The competition. The next round. Her future. Everything seemed to be changing little by little. Naomi picked up a stack of old sketchbooks. Most of them were filled with practice drawings. Faces. Buildings. Flowers. Random ideas. Years of work. Years of growth. She smiled as she flipped through them. Some drawings were good. Some were terrible. Very terrible. She laughed softly. "I really drew this?" The proportions were completely wrong. The eyes looked strange. The hands looked even worse.

It looks like I’m laughing, blissfully happy. My heart slams against my ribs as I flip to the next page, this one a drawing of me from the waist up, a mischievous grin on my face and my long hair covering my bare breasts. I flip to the next one. And the next one. Pages upon pages of my face, my body. There must be a hundred of them. Every single sketch is me.

“Maybe this will help you stop fidgeting. It helps me.” Then he turned up the volume of the Ipod docking station before picking up his tattoo gun and diving back into work. I opened the sketchbook which wasn’t empty by the way. It had many designs, each one better than the last. Pictures of a skull covered in flowers, lady nurse, butterfly, orange orchard and many more drew my attention in so many ways. I finally found a blank space and started to draw, taking my mind off everything including the man sitting across me. Croix was still working so I decided to draw the bird I saw earlier flying over the water. I visualized the image in my head and I started drawing.

He drew the jawline from memory, with clean bones and flayed skin. Then he moved on to another one, this time the figure had a bag over its head, ropes binding its wrists. He didn’t give them names. They were just shapes, bruises, positions he recognized. Even when he tried to take a break, his pencil kept moving. By the time he got to the fourth page, his fingers were sore. He had sketched a man nailed to a wall, skinless, with teeth scattered like loose screws below. Luca stared at it, blinked, and then set the pencil down as if it had burned him.

I order and watch the boys run back towards the building as fast as they can. I watch with concern as the young boy they were picking on sniffs and works to pick up pieces of his sketchbook. I bend down and help him pick up the remaining pieces before they’re carried off by the wind. I look at one of the pieces of paper and can’t contain the awe on my face as I take in the amazing sketch before me. It’s this incredible real-life style drawing of a sirna with a vibrant red tail surrounded by all the elements. It takes me a second to recognise the likeness, but this is a sketch of the God Ezillus as a sirna! This might be the coolest thing I’ve ever seen. “You drew this?” I ask in astonishment

The blood came out like a faucet. "Madam!" Naruto is the secret agent and reaper. He is the one who works well even without him. "What!?" She was angry that she didn't look back. They weren’t chatty, but they liked drawing. Their sketchbook was filled with figures that resembled comic book heroes, quiet and fierce, with eyes always cast in shadow. They were hunched over a new page now, sketching a person standing in the center of swirling chaos. The figure held a long sword in both hands, the blade resting downward, tip touching the ground. Not raised. Not slashing. Just… there.

His blurry eyes immediately searched for his bag and he weakly reached toward it, but the driver kicked it away before he could touch it. One of the minions bent down, opened the bag and started pulling out the sketches inside. The entire shop watched as he pulled out page after page and even the apprentices staring from the side looked stunned. The sketches were beautiful. They were bold cuts with unique embroidery patterns that looked like nothing they had ever seen before. A perfect blend of modern and traditional styles stitched together in a way that made every piece look expensive, striking and impossible to ignore. Madam Cherry took the papers slowly from the minion’s hands.

“For shifting?” I shook my head. “Drawing. Niru suggested it to de-stress. It might not be a bad idea.” Sam and Kevin exchanged a look. “Yeah. I mean, we can hold the fort down for a couple hours.” “Thanks.” It didn’t take me long to find myself deep in the trees with my sketchbook and a couple pencils in hand. I found a tree that would be comfortable enough and sat down. My thought was to draw the trees and the light coming through them. It started out okay but I grew frustrated with it pretty quickly. Flipped to a new paged, I just started to draw some lines. Those lines turned into a face. The eyes bright as they looked up at me from the page.
