The other children were busy working on their assignments, but Hibiki’s mind was already somewhere else—he had been thinking about the treehouse he had drawn at home the night before. His teacher, Mrs. Nakamura, had asked them to draw something that represented their imagination, and Hibiki had spent the entire evening sketching a dreamlike treehouse—one with twisting vines, brightly colored windows, and a ladder made of vines that seemed to lead straight to the clouds. The treehouse was a magical place, a world of possibilities where adventure could happen at any moment.

I couldn't resist sketching Kiara a few times; she was too adorable when she curled up next to me and dozed off, or when she would lie on her back while playing with a mouse toy. There were moments when my hand seemed to have a mind of its own, producing a drawing that surprised me once I finished. It would be of him, more specifically his piercing golden-brown eyes. I would have several pages of him in my sketchbook and not miss a single detail when it came to his tattoos.

His room was in a chaotic state, but that didn't compare to his desk. Strewn all over it were papers. Hundreds of it with many sketches of one face. Nine. He had drawn the one for the painting, but he never felt the urge to paint her and instead, kept making mini sketches. Her eating. Her sitting. Her reading. Her trying to read. He insists it is a whale. Our afternoons become simple and lazy. We take naps and read books. We eat a lot of fresh frut that’s always in plentiful supply. The second sketch features her arms going up, at the third, her palms turn over. Then the fourth sees her draw it back and before her, jagged icicles fromed from water hover. I replay the maneuver in my head, cataloguing it.

Remembering shouldn't be hard but expressing it will be. I think about the various things I have seen in my lifespan. Blood, bullets, pills, dead bodies. I could go on. Most of them aren't really suitable for this environment and explaining it will be impossible. What can I use? There's really nothing I can use that isn't somehow related to my past. Looking over at what Abe's doing, I see that he's drawing I think a scene of trees. Abe draws with these really thin and long lines, which makes his sketch look a lot like an animal's pelt. But I think that's what it is. And there's an outline of mountains in the background. Is that...Lonewood?

It was beautiful even though it showed a story of blood and darkness. I passed the folder to Hibiki for him. “Nice work, son. I would say you need to adjust your proportions. I know you’ve not seen pictures of Yūri when she was young, so I’m guessing you went off Riko’s proportions for the drawings.” he commented, handing the folder back. “Um, well yeah. Riko didn’t have any pictures of Yūri when she was young. Just a few here and there when Saki was still alive. I also looked at the pictures in the album of Saki when she was young, and her figure was similar to Riko.” Forrest nodded.
