I force my eyes open, the cabin lights dim and casting long shadows across the space. The familiar smell of leather seats mixes with something sharper—sterile antiseptic and, beneath it all, the metallic tang of blood. My stomach churns at the scent, a nauseating reminder of the injury to my head. I blink, trying to focus, but my vision swims, shapes and colors blending into a confusing haze. The pain is a constant, dull ache, but it’s the smell that gets to me—the lingering stench of blood, turning my stomach, making me want to gag.

As much as I wanted to cover my nose to get rid of the strange smell, I had to use my senses to find the place I should be going. I flinch when I hear footsteps just around the corner. Trying my best to lower my gaze, I continue walking. Biting the inside of my cheek, I walk slowly. I loosen my shoulders and made sure that I was only looking at the floor. She sniffed the air, squinting when her nose caught the smell again. What could that be? Then... Her stomach feels weird, too. Is it because of the alcohol she took last night? She stopped suspiciously and sniffed the air again, then she noticed the weirdness between her legs. Why is it somehow sticky? Is her thighs sweating? That was such a name to be called, a name you'd call your beloved, not your whore. "Do you want it running down the back of your throat or onto the cloth?" I cough violently again before sitting up and leaning my head into the cloth. The blood practically drains into the cloth. "Good," he praises. "Leaning back can make the blood go to your windpipes or line your stomach. Then you'd retch. Trust me, I've had a lot of experience with bloody noses."

The pain throbbed with every movement, a constant reminder of the violent confrontation with my father. I turned on the faucet and gently splashed cool water on my face, careful not to aggravate my injury further. Clinging to the smell of freshly spilled blood was something that I had come across before, it's hard stench burned my nostrils and back of my throat, until I was coughing for fresh air. "Oh goddess, what's that smell?" I shook my head, trying to get it to leave. But it just wouldn't. It smelled like rotting meat or burnt meat. Where was it coming from? I scrunched my nose.

I smiled back. I shouldn’t tell him right? He’ll just worry. It’s just probably because of lack of sleep. The next day I went to the hospital alone to have some check up. I should not compromise my health but I don’t want to bother Hugh at the same time. He had a lot to do in is office so it’s better if should not just tell him about it. “Your guess is right. The antiseptic stench of this hospital is making my stomach turn. It smells like cheap floor wax and something that I can't quite put a finger on, but horrible.
