It felt as if an invisible hand had seized my heart, squeezing it tightly and making it hard to breathe. The base of the cage was teeming with a grotesque collection of insects, spiders, scorpions, and rats. These nightmarish creatures crawled around Neil, their movements relentless and unsettling, as if they were waiting for the moment to torment him further. Neil’s face was etched with fear and despair, his eyes reflecting a deep, helpless dread. His body trembled slightly, though he was trying desperately to maintain a semblance of composure. The sight was almost too much to bear, a stark reminder of the cruelty we were up against and the urgency of our mission to save him.

My dreams were plagued with those same creatures again. I would wake up and hear the sounds they were making, the terrible screeching noises. And I would scream in frustration. In an insignificant part of a second, the music and clamor of individuals quiet down, absolute stillness rules for a brief time before chaos and frenzy take over the environment. The ponies in the merry round are out of nowhere stained by some ruby liquid that might as well be blood, though I can't quite put my finger on where it came from. Individuals scream in fear and run in every conceivable size, as if they are avoiding something, until out of nowhere each of them begins to disappear in waves of green smoke. "Wild Hunt," I should stop while I get what's going on.

I found myself in an unfamiliar bed, and it jolted me awake. The air was filled with the aroma of food. I looked around and found myself in a clean apartment. My clothes weren't changed, thank goodness. Someone texted me. Samuel. 'Working overtime tonight. Happy Valentine's Day, honey.' I scrolled through TikTok. Samuel probably had no idea that I knew his secret account's details. He had a short uploaded. That bastard was having fun with some ladies. They looked fresh and innocent. Outside, another deep animal sound echoes through the trees. I freeze. Every hair on my arms rises, that was not human. Nothing about this is human. My chest tightens painfully as reality starts trying to rearrange itself inside my brain. All the weirdness from the last few days crashes together at once like puzzle pieces finally snapping into place. The growling, the scent thing, the biting kids, the teeth, the fucking ears. “Oh my God,” I whisper hoarsely. “They’re actual furries.” I grab my boots off the floor and spin toward the door, fully prepared to flee this woodland psychosexual nightmare barefoot if necessary.
