Defend the awakening, end the threat. Threat. It meant Selene. It wanted me to tear her apart, to destroy her. A snarl tore from my chest. NO. White lightning exploded across my vision as the awakening punished my defiance. My spine locked up. My jaw dislocated from the sheer force of it. My vision went completely white. Normal men would have collapsed, completely incapacitated. The Ascended merely staggered, shook their heads, and kept charging, firing their assault rifles wildly at the base.

The AI’s voice responded, calm and precise, almost cold, “For the first time in over a century, the Obsidian Sons have been awakened. Congratulations, leader. Your command awaits.” A shiver ran down my spine. This was no idle message. This was an acknowledgment of power, authority, and the binding chain that connected me to forces beyond imagination. Thorne’s eyes bore into mine. “Are you certain you want to do this?” he asked, voice low. “Once they’re activated fully, there’s no turning back.”
