CHASING MONSTERS
Curiosity pried at me.
I sat, opening the book. It spoke of Hunters, descendants of wolves cursed to forget their true form. Wolves twisted into killers of their own kind. I frowned. “Rubbish,” I muttered under my breath. “Who believes this drivel?”
Still, something in the words unsettled me. The drawings looked too detailed to be myth.
I pushed it aside and reached for another book, something lighter, anything else. But fatigue dragged at me, and before long, my eyes grew heavy. I was waiting for Lucian to leave, to head to the swamps and leave me alone. I could map my own escape then.
