Kai set her down upon the sand just as the glowing sun blossomed in the cloudless sky behind them.
“That was definitely cool,” she said, rewarding him with a quick peck on the cheek. “And very comfortable, too.”
She looked out over the ocean. Twenty-five yards or so off shore, she spied Selene, Colella and Tamika bobbing in the water, waving to them. The mermaids’ long, jet black hair floated on the surface around their heads, making it look from a distance as if they were floating in small oil slicks.
Leah waved back. “They can’t swim much closer to us,” she said, smiling. “So I guess we’re gonna have to get wet.”
